Abstract:
To provide a hydrophilic coating composition excellent in hydrophilicity, wear resistance, transparency, storage stability, antifogging properties, antifouling properties, visible light transmittivity, adhesion properties, chemical resistance, weather resistance, and water resistance and a hydrophilic member using the composition. The hydrophilic coating composition has (A) a ternary copolymer having a1) a repeating unit having a hydrophilic group, a2) a repeating unit having a hydroxyl group, an epoxy group, an isocyanato group, a blocked isocyanato group, a carboxylic acid anhydride group, or an amino group, and a3) a repeating unit having a hydrolyzable silyl group; and (B) a metal complex catalyst, wherein a content of the repeating unit a1) having a hydrophilic group is 50 mol % or greater.
Abstract:
A curable film-forming coating composition, typically a clearcoat, having improved compatibility over waterborne and solventborne basecoats. The composition includes a film-forming binder comprising a carbamate material, a curing agent, typically a monomeric melamine curing agent, and a hydroxy functional silane component. When used as a clearcoat over a standard pigmented basecoat, the resulting coating provides a substantially wrinkle free appearance and excellent adhesion to both waterborne and solventborne basecoats.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a multicomponent, isocyanate-terminated or silane-functionalized coating and adhesive material which is continuously produced by mixing the individual components and by heating the latter and continuing mixing until said components reach a liquid state, wherein the resulting reactive coating and adhesive material is fed for direct use especially in profile sheathing plants, coating plants or the like. In the case of isocyanate-terminated material, one component has a reactive high-molecular weight starting polymer and a second component has a reactive isocyanate-terminated cross-linking agent. In the case of the silane- functionalized material, one component has a high-molecular weight starting material and a second component has a reactive, silane-functionalized cross-linking agent.
Abstract:
Curable compositions capable of giving a cured article excellent in weatherability and flam retardancy. (1) One of the curable compositions comprises an organic polymer having at least one crosslinkable hydrolysable silyl group and phyllosilicate. It has enhanced weatherability due to incorporation of the phyllosilicate, and has further enhanced weatherability because the bleeding of an ultraviolet absober and a light stabilizer is inhibited. (2) The other composition comprises 100 parts by weight of a urethane resin, epoxy resin, and/or modified polysulfide resin and 0.1 to 100 parts of weight of a phyllosilicate. It has enhanced weatherability due to incorporation of phyllosilicate, and has further enhanced weatherability because the bleeding of an ultraviolet absorber and a light stabilizer is inhibited.

Abstract:
Ambient temperature curing coating composition comprising a polysiloxane having the formula: 1 wherein each R1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, and alkoxy groups having up to six carbon atoms, reactive glycidoxy groups, and OSi(OR3)3 groups, wherein each R3 independently has the same meaning as R1, each R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl and aryl groups having up to six carbon atoms, and wherein n is selected so that the molecular weight of the polysiloxanes is in the range of from 500 to about 2,000, an alkoxysilyl-functional acrylic polymer, and a curing catalyst. The invention further relates to the preparation of an alkoxysilyl-functional acrylic polymer.
Abstract:
Coatings are formed by applying to article a copolymer of a water soluble base polymer having graft polymerized thereto an organic moiety that includes a group that reacts with water to form a silanol group, and then curing the copolymer to form a crosslinked hydrogel coating that is absorbent, lubricious and substantially non-water soluble. Coating compositions, coated articles the subject coatings are also described.

Abstract:
When a thermosetting composition comprising(A) a resin having hydroxyl group,(B) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing polymer,(C) a hydrolyzable silicon compound and(D) a curing catalyst is used, coating materials having no problem as to bad-smelling can be obtained and the coating films formed therefrom are improved in physical properties such as adhesion, solvent resistance and hardness.
