Abstract:
A process and system for producing industrial-scale quantities of highly dispersed, thermally stable catalysts is disclosed. The process, which may be continuous production or batch production, includes mixing together the desired catalyst precursor materials, a combustible organic material and a solvent; evaporating the solvent, combusting the catalyst intermediate; and shaping final catalyst.
Abstract:
A drag-reducing polymer suspension is described, along with a method for manufacturing the drag-reducing polymer suspension. The drag-reducing suspension is easily transportable, non-hazardous, and easily handled. The drag-reducing suspension is manufactured by grinding an ultrahigh molecular weight polymer with a wax crystal modifier and suspending it in a suspending fluid.
Abstract:
Controlled pore structure catalysts are disclosed that are active for catalyzing the partial oxidation of methane to CO and H2 and, advantageously, are capable of initiating the reaction without the need for an additional ignition source. A preferred catalyst comprises rhodium and samarium supported on an alumina or modified alumina support having certain surface area, pore volume, pore size and metal dispersion characteristics that permit light-off of the reaction at temperatures below 500null C. and with little or no use of an ignition agent. A method of partially oxidizing a light hydrocarbon to form synthesis gas, and a method of enhancing low-temperature light-off of the process are also described.
Abstract:
A method for removing organic sulfur compounds from a vent gas is described. Also described is an apparatus for absorbing organic sulfur compounds from vent gas.
Abstract:
A Fischer-Tropsch catalyst comprising a catalytically active first metal selected from the group consisting of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of iron, nickel, cobalt, chromium, and mixtures thereof, at least one second metal selected from the group consisting of silver, iron, zinc, copper, platinum, zirconium and combinations thereof; and a matrix structure comprising a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyacrylates and polymethacrylates. The first and second metals are incorporated into the polymer.
Abstract:
A system for vaporizing liquefied natural gas (LNG) utilizes the residual cooling capacity of LNG to condense the working fluid of a power producing work producing cycle and chills liquids that are used in a direct-contact heat transfer system to cool air. The cold air is used to supply air to a combustion gas turbine operating in conjunction with a combined cycle power plant. Power is produced from both the work producing cycle and the combined cycle power plant and the chilling of the intake air to the gas turbine increases the output capacity of the combined cycle power plant.
Abstract:
A catalyst bed is made of a monolith having a plurality of pores extending through the monolith, the pores forming tortuous flow paths through the monolith. The tortuous flow paths are obtained by modifying the monolith channels with turbulence-inducing objects or means. Catalyst is disposed on the wall surfaces formed by the pores. Reactants are passed through the tortuous flow paths creating turbulent flow thereby increasing the contact of the reactants with the catalyst on the wall surfaces and the mixing across the reactant stream.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a process for installing a floating platform to the ocean floor using a spoolable (preferably composite) tether, comprising installing the spooled tether onto the floating platform; towing the floating platform to a site for installation; unspooling the tether; connecting a bottom end connector of the tether to a foundation on the ocean floor; and connecting a top end connector of the tether to the floating platform. A preferred floating platform is a tension leg platform, and the invention includes a novel tension leg platform (TLP) comprising a spooled tether installed thereon. In a preferred embodiment the foundation is a suction anchor, and the suction anchor is connected to the bottom end connector prior to unspooling the tether and attached to the ocean floor after unspooling the tether. The floating platform may be uninstalled, moved and re-installed according to the invention.
Abstract:
An improved delayed coking unit with at least one coke drum wherein said coke drum comprises a substantially closed interior, a top portion having an aperture, an overhead vapor outlet nozzle removably connected to the aperture, and a deflector for deflecting solids and heavy hydrocarbon liquids from exiting said interior of said coke drum through said aperture.
Abstract:
A dynamic range relaxation algorithm is applied to simulate borehole failure under a variety of stress conditions. The borehole and its neighborhood are modeled by a number of regions by a plurality of interconnected nodes. The bonds between the nodes may be modeled as springs, rods, or beams. The strength of the bonds has a statistical variation to accurately simulate real world situations. The model may include, in addition to the borehole and the far earth formations, a liner, a casing, and/or a gravel pack. Simulation is carried out for different strength of the bonds.
