The invention relates to a coupling system for transmitting torque around a central axis of the coupling system, wherein the coupling system comprises; - a stator, - a hypocycloid transmission system rotatably supported by the stator, - an output member for transmitting torque, which output member is rotatably coupled with the stator through the hypocycloid transmission system, wherein, the hypocycloid transmission system comprises a planetary wheel member provided with a drive cam, the output member comprises a bending member at one end thereof coupled with the output member at an outer circumference thereof which bending member extends from the outer circumference of the output member towards the central axis, the drive cam contacts the bending member for driving the output member, and the radial position of the drive cam with respect to the bending member is adjustable through the hypocycloid transmission system,between an outer position proximate the circumference of the output member and an inner position proximate the central axis, for adjusting a desired stiffness of the coupling system.

Abstract:
An implantation system for treatment of a defective curvature of the spinal column comprises an elongated element (2), a first bone fixation element (31) being fixedly attached to said elongated element, a second bone fixation element (32, 33), and guiding structure (45, 50) through which the second bone fixation element is slidably and contactingly connected to the elongated element. The elongated element has bending resilience and/or torsional resilience for applying corrective force action to the spinal column. A special arrangement of the guiding structure (45, 50) provides automatical adjustment of the corrective force action in dependence of growth of the spinal column. The system allows for good flexibility of the spine and for a natural healthy growth of the spine, while it avoids re-operations and implant adjustments.

The invention relates to a system 10 for enabling generation of photoacoustic images, comprising a light source 3 arranged to generate pulsed or modulated light having a wavelength in the range of 200 – 2500 nm, a biopsy needle having a needle body 4 with a distal portion 4a, the needle body being provided with an optical fiber 5 having a distal portion 5a and adapted to conduct the light from the light source 3 via the distal portion 5a towards a target region 2 located inside a patient 1. Photoacoustic signals 7 generated in the target region 2 are advantageously intercepted by a suitable detector, such as a per se known ultrasonic probe 6. The ultrasonic probe 6 may be connected to a data processing system 8 for visualizing suitable images 9a on a display 9. The invention further relates to a method of generating photoacoustic images and to a biopsy needle.

The present invention relates to porous proton exchange membranes (PEM) based on the use of hybrid porous membranes based on polybenzimidazole (PBI), wherein the PBI is mixed with hydrophilic inorganic microporous fillers which are suitably functionalized, The PEM of the invention are suitable for use in fuel cells operated at elevated temperatures.

The invention provides a lab-on-a-chip device comprising a micro channel for a fluid, wherein the micro channel comprises a circumferential channel wall, wherein the channel wall comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and a floating third electrode. The device can be used in a method for the analysis of an analyte fluid comprising flowing the analyte fluid through the channel of the electronic lab-on-a-chip device by measuring an electric signal between the first and the second electrode, especially measuring the electrical impedance between the first electrode and the second electrode. This may be used for instance for the analyses of mammalian semen.

The screening method of the invention comprises: providing a micro-array comprising said material and having a multitude of units at least part of which have different topography; contacting at least part of said multitude of units with said environment; and screening said micro-array for an interaction between one or more of said units and said environment.

The present invention provides an optical device, comprising an optical fiber and a cantilever that is arranged on an end of the optical fiber; The cantilever may be an integral part of the optical fiber, and may have a length that is substantially equal to a diameter of the optical fiber. Measurement means for measuring a displacement of the cantilever are connected to an opposite end of the, optical fiber. A method of measuring a displacement using the optical device comprises the steps of: - arranging measurement means, comprising a light source, on an opposite end of the optical fiber; - using the light source to send a beam of light into the optical fiber; - measuring the interference of light that is reflected on the end op the optical fiber and light that is reflected on the cantilever; and determining the displacement of the cantilever relative to an intermediate position dependent on the measured interference.
