The present invention relates to polymer compositions comprising a (co)polymer comprising (a) an arylene oxide moiety and (b) a dendritic (co)polymer, a hyperbranched (co)polymer or a mixture thereof, and the use of these polymer compositions as membrane materials for the separation of gases. The present invention further relates to the use of a dendritic (co)polymer, a hyperbranched (co)polymer or a mixture thereof as permeability and/or selectivity enhancing additives in gas separation membranes. The dendritic (co)polymer is preferably a Boltorn polymer.

The present invention relates to a process for cross-linking a membrane comprising a polyimide, wherein the polyimide is cross-linked with a cross-linking agent comprising two or more isocyanate groups. The present invention also relates to a membrane obtainable by this process and to the use of the membrane in a separation process. The present invention also relates to a process for separating a dissolved component having a molecular weight of about 100 to about10000 Dalton from a solution, said process comprising: (a) contacting the solution with the membrane, and (b) isolating or concentrating the component.

The invention is directed to a high throughput screening method for analysing and interaction between a surface of a material and an environment. The screening method of the invention comprises: providing a micro-array comprising said material and having a multitude of units at least part of which have different topography; contacting at least part of said multitude of units with said environment; and screening said micro-array for an interaction between one or more of said units and said environment.

Beschrieben wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer ionendurchlässigen Membran mit profilierter Oberfläche, bei dem ein Formgebungselement unter Erzeugung eines vorzugsweise regelmäßigen Musters aus gleich oder verschieden ausgebildeten Erhebungen und/oder Vertiefungen mit einem nicht ausgehärteten, mindestens ein Polymer enthaltenden Polymerfilm in Kontakt gebracht wird, eine ionendurchlässige Membran, die insbesondere nach einem solchen Verfahren herstellbar ist, eine Membrananordnung, die mindestens eine solche ionendurchlässige Membran umfasst und ein Verfahren zur elektrodialytischen Entsalzung von Flüssigkeiten, bei dem mindestens eine solche Membrananordnung eingesetzt wird.

Disclosed are hollow fibers suitable for use in dialysis in an outside-in configuration. For such fibers, it is desirable that the fiber have a low albumin sieving coefficient and have a permeability high enough to be considered a High Flux dialyzer, and it is desirable that the outer (blood-facing) surface have a sufficiently small roughness and be hydrophilic. It is desirable that there be a selective layer on the outer surface and, interiorly of that, a porous structurally supportive region, which may contain elongated macrovoids. Such a fiber may be spun through a triple-concentric spinneret that produces a bore liquid surrounded by dope surrounded by a shower. The shower and the coagulation bath may be pure water, which is a non-solvent. The process may be performed at room temperature. Spinning parameters are discussed.

The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a hollow fibre membrane having a supporting layer and a separating layer, said process comprising: (a)extruding a spinning composition comprising a first polymer and a solvent for the first polymer through an inner annular orifice of a hollow-fibre die; (b)co-extruding a composition comprising an organic nucleophilic reagent and a mixtures of a solvent and a non-solvent for the first polymer, wherein the composition is either extruded through a central annular orifice of the hollow-fibre die or through an outer annular orifice of a hollow-fibre die; and (c)passing the hollow-fibre through a coagulation bath. The hollow fibre membrane according to the present invention can be used in gas separation processes, vapour separation processes and liquid filtration processes.
