Abstract: PURPOSE: A cylinder lens array and a projection system using the same are provided to increase light efficiency by decreasing an emission angle of one direction of light, asymmetrically aligning the light irradiated from a light source, and reducing etendue. CONSTITUTION: In the device, a plurality of lens cells(20,21) is arranged opposite to each other on light progression path. The center axes of the lens cells are different with each other and is arranged to reduce the irradiation angle of one side light out of symmetrically irradiated light. The center shafts of the lens cells are arranged to be continuously changed. The lens cells which are connected to each other along with center are formed into one body.

CONSTITUTION: An illumination optical system having a bicolor mirror wheel includes a light source(401) and a bicolor mirror wheel(407). The light source(401) is used for outputting the light. The bicolor mirror wheel(407) includes a plurality of bicolor mirrors. Each bicolor mirror is formed with three segments in order to separate three-color rays from the incident rays of the light source(401). The number of the bicolor mirrors is equal to the number of the segments. The three-color rays are formed with red, green, and blue color rays. The segments corresponding to the bicolor mirrors are used for reflecting different color rays, respectively.

Light passes through a polarization plate(47) of the LCDs and becomes incident to the prisms, wherein the light is refracted twice toward the boundary surfaces and projected to the screen. By the light path change, the non-display area in a light shield part where a sealant is sealed is removed from the screen.
