Abstract: An active ion-doped waveguide-plasmon resonance (AID WPR) sensor based on plasmon surface resonance (PSR) and an imaging system using the sensor are provided. An additional dielectric thin film doped with active ions and acting as a waveguide is formed on a metal thin film. The active ions are excited by an incident light beam and fluoresce light of a shorter wavelength than the incident light beam through upconversion coupled to surface plasmon resonance, thereby increasing fluorescence intensity variations with respect to incident light angle variations. The AID WPR sensor and the imaging system can detect a minor refractive index variation of a sample, which could not be measured using an existing SPR sensor, or a trace adsorbed material, with 100 times larger refractive index resolution than the existing SPR sensor.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A waveguide-plasmon resonance sensor and an image system are provided to improve sensitivity of the waveguide-plasmon resonance sensor by coating a dielectric thin film doped with active ions on a metal layer as a waveguide. CONSTITUTION: An active ion doped waveguide-plasmon resonance sensor includes a conductive film(122) for providing surface plasmon and a dielectric medium(110) aligned at one side of the conductive film(122). A light source(130) radiates incident light, which is incident into the conductive film(122) through the dielectric medium(110). A dielectric film is coated on the other side of the conductive film(122). A sample(123) is attached to the dielectric film. Active ions(171) are doped into the dielectric film. Active ions(171) are excited by incident light(131), thereby generating fluorescent light(139). A light receiving section(140) is provided to measure intensity of fluorescent light(139).

Abstract: PURPOSE: An automatic extraction method of rib edges in chest X-ray images is provided to read accurately the chest X-ray image in a preprocessing procedure of a chest X-ray image by extracting automatically the boundary of the rib. CONSTITUTION: An X-ray is obtained by a DR(Digital Radiology) or a CR(Computed Radiology), or an X-ray film(21). A digitization process for the obtained image is performed(22). The digitization process is to convert the obtained image to a digital image by using a film scanner. A boundary of lung is extracted from the digitized image(23). The boundary of the lung is composed of a rib cage, a diaphragm, an upper boundary of the lung, and an inner boundary of the lung. An initial boundary of a rib is extracted(24). A final boundary of the rib is extracted by using the initial boundary of the rib(25).

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for setting an index of osteoporosis is provided reliably check the osteoporosis by eliminating the effects which is generated by an X-ray photographing and a film printing condition. CONSTITUTION: An interested area is set in a radius image when a density of the osteoporosis is estimated by using a radius X-ray image. Then, the osteoporosis index is set in a predetermined interested area. A real bone density is estimated from the predetermined radius index. The interested area setting is accomplished by setting a center of the interested area by using the center of the circular which is in contact with the inner circle of the radius. According to the method for setting an index of osteoporosis, the osteoporosis is reliably checked by eliminating the effects which is generated by an X-ray photographing and by a film printing condition.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A double frequency output element is provided to obtain output with two different frequencies by using superconductors with Josephson junction and a time-delay element. CONSTITUTION: Superconductors(1,2,3) are joined by Joseph junction. A resistor(R) generates a voltage drop owing to a pulse current provided from an external source. A time-delay element(4) delays the voltage generated by the resistor(R) for a determined time and provides it to the superconductors(1,2,3) forming a Joseph junction. The superconductors(1,2,3) forming a Joseph junction output different low-frequency low voltage and high-frequency high voltage depending on the initial condition of the superconductors(1,2,3) and the voltage with a determined time delay.
