Abstract: A secure messaging system (900) includes a secure messaging system controller (1702) and optionally one or more financial messaging units (106, 906, 1704, 1706). The secure messaging system controller includes a financial account event monitor (1760) and a schedule controller (1750). The financial account event monitor stores and monitors financial account event triggers associated with a plurality of financial accounts. The schedule controller schedules transmission of at least one financial transaction message to effect a financial transaction responsive to a determination of an occurrence of at least one financial account event trigger by the financial account event monitor in connection with a financial account of the plurality of financial accounts. The financial transaction is associated with the at least one financial account event trigger, and each financial transaction message includes a transaction identifier that identifies a corresponding portion of the financial transaction and further includes a value associated with the corresponding portion of the financial transaction.

Abstract: A radio receiver (40) for receiving an RF signal comprises receiving circuitry (42) for receiving and demodulating the RF signal and a microcomputer (44) coupled to the receiving circuitry (42) for enabling and disabling the receiving circuitry (42) at predetermined times. The radio receiver (40) further comprises an expansion chip (68) coupled to and controlled by the microcomputer (44) for communicating therewith to further process the RF signal. Communication between the microcomputer (44) and the expansion chip (68) occurs at a first speed when the receiving circuitry (42) is enabled and at a second speed faster than the first speed when the receiving circuitry (42) is disabled.

Abstract: A portable secure financial messaging unit (906) includes a receiver (804) and a selective call decoder (1004). The selective call decoder (1004) has a memory (1010) that includes a single unique selective call address corresponding with a predetermined financial transaction type. An address correlator (830) operates to determine substantial coincidence between the single unique selective call address and a received selective call address corresponding with the predetermined financial transaction type. In response to a coincidence, a main processor (1006) and a financial transaction processor (1004) process received information to effect a financial transaction corresponding with the predetermined financial transaction type.

Abstract: A battery saving apparatus selectively supplies power to each receiver function of a battery powered communication receiver at predetermined time intervals prior to the reception of coded message signals. The selective supplying of power to each receiver function enables the reception of the coded message signals with each receiver function being powered only as long as is required for each receiver function to stabilize. The predetermined time intervals for each receiver function are programmed into a code plug to provide the capability to change the turn-on times when required.

Abstract: A satellite communication system (1110) provides geographical protocol conversion for message deliverey between communication transceivers (1118, 1118') operating within at least two geographic areas (1116, 1116'). The satellite based communication system (1110) comprises a first communication transceiver (1118) operating within a first geographic area (1116), and providing message transmissions in a first predetermined message transmission protocol to a communication satellite (1120). The communication satellite (1120) comprises a satellite receiver (1312) for receiving the message transmissions delivered in the first predetermined message transmission protocol, a protocol converter (1318) for converting the message transmissions delivered in the first predetermined mesge transmission protocol into a message transmissions deliverable in a second predetermined message transmission protocol, and a satellite transmitter (1328) for transmitting the message transmissions deliverable in a second predetermined message transmission protocol to at least a second communication transceiver (1118'). The second communication transceiver operates within a second geographic area (1116'), for receiving the message transmissions delivered in the second predetermined message transmission protocol.

La base transmisora (210) transmite la informacion específica de ubicacion (134) al receptor selectivo de llamadas (108) para verificar que el receptor selectivo de llamdas (108) se encuentra autorizado para operar. El receptor selectivo de llmadas (108) recibe las señales de identificacion de ubicacion (132) y transmite la informacion específica de ubicacion (134). Un contrtolador/deocodificador (306) compara la identificacion de ubicacion recibida (132) con la identificacion de ubicacion almacenada (132) en el receptor selectivo de llamadas (108) con el fin de determinar el momento en el qu el receptor selelctivo de llamadas (108) se traslada hacia una nuevaárea de servicio, y almacena la nueva identificacion de ubicacion (132). The microprocessor (26) is adpated to detect a predetermined code signal to alter the timing characteristic of the bit rate signal for generating a bit rate signal at a second rate for decoding received signals at a second bit rate designated by the predetermined code signal.
