Abstract:
The present invention provides a new composite material comprising a porous matrix made of metal, metal alloy or semiconducting material and hollow fullerene-like nanoparticles of a metal chalcogenide compound or mixture of such compounds. The composite material is characterized by having a porosity between about 10% and about 40%. The amount of the hallow nanoparticles in the composite material is 1-20 wt. %.
Abstract:
A heat conductive silicone composition comprising (A) an alkenyl group-bearing organopolysiloxane, (B) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two Si—H groups, (C) a filler consisting of aluminum powder and zinc oxide powder in a weight ratio of from 1/1 to 10/1, (D) an organosilane having a long-chain alkyl groups, (E) platinum or a platinum compound, and (F) a regulator has a high thermal conductivity and maintains flexibility even when exposed to heat for an extended period of time.
Abstract:
Die release lubricant is made from powder solid lubricant, adhesion enhancer made of organic or inorganic compound and volatile solvent. Before melted metal is injected into a die for casting, the die release lubricant is sprayed to an inside surface of the die. The die release lubricant is in a liquid state and is uniformly applied to the inside surface of the die. As a result, application efficiency of the die release lubricant is improved while an amount of thermal decomposition gas generated during casting is reduced.
Abstract:
A low friction valve train actuating at least one valve in an internal combustion engine includes a cam shaft having at least one cam, a tappet contacting the cam and valve, the cam and valve having outer surfaces with an open porosity, a solid film lubricant impregnated and anchored in the open porosity, the solid film lubricant is stable to temperatures at about 700.degree. F. to retain a low coefficient of friction in an oil starved environment.
Abstract:
A lubrication block, with or without a cavity, or a lubrication bag, for lubricating an ID surface of a tire and an OD surface of a plurality of pads of rotary trunnion supported equipment, such as a kiln, cooler, dryer, reactor, granulator and ball mill operating at temperatures from 100.degree. F. to 500.degree. F. or higher. The tire has inner and outer faces, and the inner face of the tire is slipped over the plurality of pads or filler bars welded to an outer shell of the rotary equipment. The lubrication block or bag is sized so as to be inserted in between the pads. The lubrication block comprises a lubricant and a solid carrier for said lubricant. The carrier is selected from the group consisting of waxes such as paraffin, polymers, copolymers such as ethylene or polyethylene glycol or mixtures thereof, and the lubricant comprises powdered carbon and a soft metal powder (e.g. copper, zinc, aluminum) or a noble metal powder (e.g. silver, copper).
Abstract:
A coating and bonding composition is disclosed which includes a suspending agent, bonding agent, thinning agent, and a metallic flake designed to bond a dissimilar metal to the thread surface to prevent seizing and galling.
Abstract:
A solid lubricant additive for resin-bound friction lining mixtures contains manganous sulphide (MnS). The additive further optionally contains other sulphides, carbon carriers such as graphite and coke, phosphates and/or oxides. The additive results in the adjustment of the coefficient of friction and wear in friction lining materials. The additive may be advantageously employed in asbestos-free and lead-free friction lining mixtures in heavy-duty friction parts as used in brakes, clutches, synchromesh gears.
Abstract:
Lubricant for use in hot forming of steel at high temperatures and especially in the production of seamless tubes in so-called multiple pipe mills, in which the lubricant must adhere water-resistant to the tool. This is achieved by a lubricant containing, besides a solid lubricant and a thickening agent, a binding agent from the series of the carboxylated styrene-butadiene latices.
Abstract:
This invention discloses a new ferrofluid and the use of ferrofluids in magnetically controllable couplings such as electromagnetic clutches and brakes. The new ferrofluid is comprised of a stable suspension of magnetizable particles having a size of at least one micron, a fluid carrier and a complexing agent. The complexing agent maintains the magnetizable particles in suspension within the carrier fluid.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a method for the manufacture of a bearing seal which includes providing a polymer and/or a filler coated with a polymer and thereafter heating the coated filler to bond the copolymer to the filler. Following cooling of the coated filler, it is pulverized and added to granular polytetrafluoroethylene. This admixture is then mixed to obtain a uniform blend and thereafter shaped by compacting and heating into a preselected form. Fillers suitable for the present invention may be carbon, metal, glass, carbide, disulfide, polymeric, polyester fluoride and ceramic fibers.
