Magnetorheological devices, including damping devices, rotary devices, and haptic systems constructed with said devices are disclosed. The devices contain dry magnetically-responsive particles, or MR fluids containing the magnetically responsive particles. The magnetically soft particles characterized by a single process yield population of atomized particles having a cumulative 10 %, 50 % and 90 % by volume, fraction within specified size, i.e., D 10 of from 2 up to and including a D 10 of 5 µm, a D 50 8 µm up to and including a D 50 of 15 µm, a D 90 of 25 µm up to and including a D 90 of 40 µm, and characterized by a least squares regression of log normal particles size against cumulative volume % fraction of greater than or equal to 0.77.

L'invention a pour objet une graisse lubrifiante, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend: de 70 à 95% en poids d'un mélange comprenant au moins un premier ester d'acide gras et de sorbitan et au moins un deuxième ester d'acide gras et de sorbitan polyoxyalkylé, ces esters étant présents en des quantités en poids, par rapport au poids dudit mélange, de 10 à 90 % et 90 à 10%, respectivement; et de 5 à 30% en poids d'au moins un agent épaississant. L'invention a aussi pour objet un procédé de préparation d'une graisse selon l'invention, ainsi que l'utilisation en tant que lubrifiant d'une telle graisse. L'invention a aussi pour objet une roue de véhicule comprenant une graisse selon l'invention.

Low bleed silicone grease compositions are prepared by blending high viscosity silicone oils with filler materials and/or silicone elastomers. Greases comprise three main types: I) grease comprising high viscosity silicone oil and filler material, II) grease comprising high viscosity silicone oil and silicone elastomer, and III) grease comprising high molecular weight silicone oil and filler material and silicone elastomer.

An electroviscous fluid prepared by dispersing fine solid particles in an electrically insulating fluid. The fine solid particles have a specific gravity equal to, or greater than, that of the elctrically insulating fluid, and have a hydroxyl group on the surface thereof. The hydroxyl group is covalently bonded to a nonionic surfactant having a hydroxyl group and/or an -NH group as a hydrophilic group through a silane coupling agent, or polystyrene is covalently bonded thereto. The fluid is excellent in response, reproducibility, durability and thickening effect, particularly in dispersibility and shelf life stability, and can be utilized for electrical control of vibration control machines such as variable damping dampers, engine mounts, bearing dampers, clutches, valves, shock absorbers, precision equipment, acoustic instruments, etc., and for display devices.

Adducts of clay, especially of the smectite variety, most especially bentonite, are prepared with an effective amount of at least one activated mixed metal oxide or oxy-hydroxide (AHMMO) formed by dehydrating hydrotalcite or a mixture comprising magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide, or a crystalline mixed metal hydroxide conforming substantially to the formula LimDdT(OH)(m+2d+3+n.a)(A )a.xH2O where m is zero to one, D is a divalent metal, d is from zero to 4, T is a trivalent metal, A represents at least one anion or negative-valence radical of valence n, where n is 1 or more, (m+2d+3+n.a) is equal to or greater than 3, (m+d) is greater than zero, and xH2O represents excess waters of hydration. These adducts are useful, e.g., in drilling muds and in viscosity modification of a wide variety of fluids.

Disclosed is an additive for liquid hydrocarbon fuel composition, particularly diesel fuels. The additive composition is the reaction product of polyalkenyl-substituted succinimides, aldehydes, and triazoles. It also finds use in lubricant compositions.
