Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing a high strength synthetic strength member containing rope and a resultant rope, comprising multiple layers of twisted and braided yarns, wherein individual sheaths enclosing individual strands are of a material such as HMPE, PTFE or UHMWPE with a lower decomposition temperature than the material of said strands being aramid, the method comprising subjecting parts of the rope to heat and tension thereby pre-stretching and creating a non-uniform or non-round shape of said strands, further choosing a combination of braid and twist angles as well as braid compressive forces to accommodate specific strength and elongation relation between the individual rope layers.

Abstract: The disclosure provides embodiments of a fishing line that includes renewable natural fibers, and a renewable natural coating. Some of the embodiments of the disclosed fishing line include, for example, a single strand line, or a braided or plaited line made from multiple threads, strands or yarns. Other embodiments of the disclosed fishing line are degradable over a predetermined timeline. These embodiments are preferred because of the low environmental impact of the disclosed fishing lines.

Abstract: A rope system (10, 20) comprising a splice structure (12, 22) with an intact portion (23) comprising at least 8 intact strands (32, 34), and a disassembled portion (26) comprising at least 4 loose strands (30), wherein the intact portion (23) is a braid of at least 4 S oriented (32) and at least 4 Z oriented intact strands (34), wherein at least one loose strand (30) of the disassembled portion (26) passes under and over intact strands (32, 34) of the intact portion (23), and at least one loose strand (30) passes under at least one X-tuck (38) of intact strands (32, 34). By this means the splice length can be minimized resp. slippage of the splice at high loads can be avoided.

Abstract: A method for creating a composite cable having at least one advanced termination on at least one end. An advanced termination is added to an end of a short synthetic tensile strength member. The strength of the tensile strength member and termination is then tested. Once tested satisfactorily, the short cable is spiced onto a long cable of the same type using prior art splicing techniques. The union of the short cable and the long cable creates a “composite” cable having a advanced termination on at least one end. In most applications it is preferable to set the length of the short cable so that the interwoven splice will exist at a desired location.

Abstract: A spliced rope apparatus and a method of forming the same are disclosed. The apparatus has a first rope including a first plurality of strands and a second rope including a second plurality of strands. The apparatus also has a splice connecting the ropes and defined by the first and second pluralities of strands. The splice has a spiral section including a first pair having strands of the first plurality of strands that are positioned proximate each other. The first pair extends helically and the strands of the first pair together pass under a plurality of picks defined by the second plurality of strands and together pass over a remainder of the second plurality of strands. The splice also has a tuck section in which at least some of the first plurality of strands extend longitudinally to pass under and over sequential picks defined by the second plurality of strands.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing an elevator includes installing a movable supporting platform and an elevator car in the elevator hoistway; taking the elevator car into use to serve passengers and/or to transport goods; removing the elevator car from use; changing the service range of the elevator car to reach higher up in the elevator hoistway by lifting the supporting platform higher up in the elevator hoistway; and taking the elevator car back into use. The elevator is reeved to include construction-time hoisting roping, which includes one or more ropes, the longitudinal power transmission capacity of which is based at least essentially on non-metallic fibers in the longitudinal direction of the rope. In the method, guide rails to be fixed with guide rail brackets can additionally be installed by the aid of an installation device. An elevator arrangement can be used to perform the method.
