Abstract: Title compds.(I; R2 and R3 are H, F, Cl, Br, C1-4 alkyl, CF3, NO2. pref. R2 is H, or in the 6-position it is NO2, F, Cl or Br; or in the 5-position F, Cl or Br; pref. R3 is H, F, Cl, Br, or C1-4 alkyl) which are microbicides, particularly directed to combatting phythophathogenic fungi or bacteria, were prepd. by reaction of II(R6=H or Me) and III as starting material. Thus, 122g p-cresol-methyl ester and 194g trichloro acrylic acid chloride were reacted to give I(R1,R2=H;R3=Me).

Abstract: The invention provides branched trialkylamine oxides with improved properties. The trialkylamine oxides of the invention produced from branched trialkylamines, in one embodiment, can be made using certain branched C10-12 enals and aldehydes. The invention also provides an trialkylamine oxide having the formula: wherein R5, R6 and R7 are independently at least one of C3H7, C2H5, CH3, or H, or mixtures thereof; and wherein R5 and R6 are not H at the same time. In one embodiment, the trialkylamine oxides of the invention can be useful in making various products, for example, as surfactants.

Abstract: A continuous process to nitrate a nitratable aromatic compound in a nitronium ion solution in a nitrator. The process comprises feeding into the nitrator nitronium ion solution of a composition within an area defined by connecting three points in a ternary phase diagram of nitric acid, sulfuric acid and water. The three points correspond to first about 82% of sulfuric acid and 18% nitric acid, secondly about 55% sulfuric acid and about 45% water and, thirdly, 100% sulfuric acid, with the nitric acid preferably being below about 3%. The nitratable aromatic compound is introduced in a manner such that a fine emulsion of hydrocarbon in the nitronium ion solution is formed with the hydrocarbon evenly distributed in the acid phase. The acid and the nitratable aromatic compound are brought into intimate contact in a plug-flow nitrator that contains mixing elements.
