Abstract:
Methods and compositions for enhancing an immune response to a selected antigen are described. The methods are useful for the treatment and prevention of microbial infections, such as infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. The methods and compositions include host defense peptides, polyphosphazenes and immunostimulatory sequences to enhance the immune response to a coadministered antigen.
Abstract:
The invention relates to polymers comprising metal-containing nucleic acid duplexes. Methods of using the metal-containing nucleic acid duplexes to provoke physiological responses in a host animal are provided, such as immunological methods that produce antibodies in the host.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a temperature control, optionally cooling, apparatus comprising: a first and second and/or plurality of fillable chambers each having a first layer, a second layer, an elongated edge, preferably longitudinal edge, an inlet and an outlet in the elongated, preferably longitudinal edge, and retention members between the first layer and second layer in a series of spaced veins creating a continuous channel extending from the inlet to the outlet; and a method of cooling and or maintaining an organ comprising: a method for cooling, warming and/or maintaining the temperature of an organ prior to or during a transplant procedure, the method comprising: contacting the organ with temperature control, optionally the cooling and/or temperature maintaining, apparatus; securing the apparatus to the organ; attaching the inlets of the first and second and/or plurality of fillable chambers of the apparatus to a circulation fluid source; and/or infusing circulation fluid into the inlet, through the continuous channel, and out the outlet of each of the first and second and/or plurality of fillable chambers of the apparatus.
Abstract:
Implants and methods for stabilizing bone fractures are provided. In one embodiment, the implants are spheres. In another embodiment, the implants are rods. The rods can be used to stabilize peripheral portions of a bone fracture. The rods can be shaped and configured to correspond to the shape of a region of bone against which the rod will be deployed. The rods can be provided with surface features for engaging adjacent rods and/or adjacent regions of bone to further stabilize the rods. The spheres can be inserted to fill a remaining volume of the fracture cavity. The implants can be made from orthobiologic materials.
Abstract:
This application relates to compositions comprising one or more CpG oligodeoxynucleotides complexed to nanoparticles comprising a gemini surfactant and optionally a muco-adhesive polymer, which can be used for intrapulmonary delivery to induce immunity in feed animals, and the methods of making and uses thereof.
Abstract:
Bifunctional molecules having first and second alpha-synuclein binding agents coupled by a linker are disclosed. The bifunctional molecules have potential utility in the diagnosis, treatment and/or prophylaxis of disorders in which alpha-synuclein is implicated, including Parkinson's disease. Methods of making and using the bifunctional molecules are disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods for identifying a subject with a cancer eligible for treatment with an inhibitor of a Table 1 molecule, optionally a SRC kinase inhibitor or a MET kinase inhibitor, are provided. The methods comprise testing a biological sample from the subject for a deficiency in EPHB6 receptor levels, wherein the subject is eligible for treatment with an inhibitor of a Table 1 molecule, optionally a SRC kinase inhibitor or a MET kinase inhibitor, if EPHB6 receptor levels in the biological sample are deficient.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a method for detecting a brain injury in a subject by comparing the amount of ADAM10 protein in a blood sample from the subject to a reference standard or to the amount of ADAM10 in a blood sample from a control. An increase in the amount of ADAM10 in the subject blood sample relative to the reference standard or control is indicative of the subject having sustained a brain injury, in particular a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The present disclosure also provides novel antibody and antibody fragments that bind to ADAM10 at different positions.
Abstract:
An energy exchange system for conditioning air in an interior space of a structure. The system may include at least one supply liquid-to-air membrane energy exchanger (LAMEE) unit for conditioning air from outside to form supply air for the interior space, and at least one exhaust LAMEE unit for collecting air from the interior space to form exhaust air. An auxiliary loop may fluidly connect between a desiccant liquid outlet of the exhaust LAMEE unit and a desiccant liquid inlet of the supply LAMEE unit. In a first mode, desiccant liquid is circulated between the supply LAMEE unit and the exhaust LAMEE unit. In a second mode, desiccant liquid is circulated between the supply LAMEE unit, the exhaust LAMEE unit, and the auxiliary loop, and water content of the desiccant liquid is decreased in the auxiliary loop.
Abstract:
The disclosure provides methods of detecting and monitoring brain injury in a test subject comprising analyzing a blood sample from the test subject for increased levels of PrP C . The disclosure also provides kits for measuring the amount of PrP C in a blood sample.
