Abstract: Process for the preparation of 4-alkylsulfonyl-1-alkyl-2-chlorobenzenes and like compounds.A process for the preparation of 4-alkyl(C1-C4)-sulfonyl-1-alkyl-2-chlorobenzenes, in very good yields and with high selectivity by selectively chlorinating a p-alkyl-benzenesulfonyl chloride with gaseous chlorine in the presence of a chlorine carrier at 50° C. to 100° C. to give a compound of the formulain which R1 is an alkyl (C1-C4) group, subsequently reducing the latter in an aqueous medium at a pH of 8 to 10 with sodium hydrogen sulfite or sodium sulfite at 40 to 90° C. to give a compound of the formulaand reacting the latter with alkyl(C1-C4) chloride in the presence of an acid binder at 80 to 150° C., and also compounds of the last mentioned formula which, instead of the -SO2Na group contain the -SO2X group (X=hydrogen atom or alkali metal atom).

Abstract: Highly pure tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone is prepared by the action of chlorine and hydrochloric acid on hydroquinone, characterised in that the 1.9- to 2.1-fold molar amount of gaseous chlorine is allowed to act, at temperatures from 5 to 15 DEG C, on 1 mole of hydroquinone in the 6- to 7-fold molar amount of 30% to 37% hydrochloric acid, the suspension obtained, which essentially contains the 2,5-dichlorohydroquinone, is then diluted with 2 to 3 parts of water relative to the hydroquinone employed, and first heated to a temperature of 20 to 30 DEG C, the 1.9- to 2.1-fold molar amount of chlorine gas is then passed in in an atmosphere of air and while increasing the temperature to 90 to 100 DEG C, while simultaneously diluting the mixture with 3.5 to 4.5 parts of water, relative to hydroquinone employed, and finally passing in, at temperatures from 100 to 115 DEG C, the 1- to 2-fold molar amount of gaseous chlorine, relative to hydroquinone employed.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of aromatic dialkylamines of the formula (1) (1) in which R denotes an alkyl-C1-C6 group, X and Y each denote a hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine atom or a hydroxyl, alkyl-C1-C4, alkoxy-C1-C4, carboxyl, carbalkoxy-C1-C5, alkyl-C1-C4-CO-NH-, +TR sulfonic acid, alkyl-C1-C4 sulfonate, sulfamoyl, alkyl-C1-C4-sulfonyl, hydroxy-alkylene-C1-C4-sulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, hydroxyphenylsulfonyl, alkyl-C1-C4-phenylsulfonyl or alkoxy-C1-C4-phenylsulfonyl group, wherein compounds of the formula (2) (2) in which R1 denotes a nitro or primary amino group, and X and Y have the mentioned meanings, are reductively dialkylated using at least equimolar amounts of an aldehyde of the formula (3) (3) in which R has the abovementioned meaning, in alcohols, alkylbenzenes, glycol ethers, fatty acid dialkylamides or fatty acid alkyl esters or fatty acid glycol esters, and using catalytically activated hydrogen in the presence of a precious metal catalyst of group 8 of the periodic table, if appropriate in the presence of catalytic amounts of a trialkyl-C1-C6-amine, at 50 DEG C. to 150 DEG C. at a pressure of 20 bar to 100 bar.
