Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane from 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-chloroethane and hydrogen fluoride in the gas phase. This method makes use of a catalyst which contains chromium and magnesium and which can be obtained by precipitating chromium(III) hydroxide by reacting 1 mole of a water-soluble chromium(III) salt with at least 1.5 moles of magnesium hydroxide or magnesium oxide in the presence of water, converting the reaction mixture into a paste which contains chromium hydroxide and a magnesium salt, and then drying the paste and treating the product with hydrogen fluoride at temperatures of 20 to 500 DEG C.

Abstract: According to the specified process chromium oxyfluoride catalysts which have largely lost their activity are regenerated. The catalysts are mixed with magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide in the presence of water and converted into a paste. If necessary the mixture must be concentrated by evaporation until it exhibits the consistency of a paste. Finally the paste is dried. The paste is best converted into molded bodies such as, for example, granules before drying.

Abstract: of the disclosure: Substantially non-crosslinked fluorocarbon polymers containing carboxyl groups are prepared starting from non-crosslinked and in some cases new, fluorocarbon polymers in which the linear macromolecules carry side chains containing the end group -CHFX (X is F or CF3). The starting polymers are first reacted with peroxodisulfuryl difluoride FSO2O-OSO2F to give the corresponding fluorosulfato derivatives containing the side chain end groups (X is F or CF3). In the event that X is F, these derivatives are then converted into the corresponding carboalkoxy derivatives by means of an alcohol, the fluorosulfato group being split off, and these carboalkoxy derivatives are then converted by saponification into the products containing the free carboxyl groups; the fluorosulfato derivatives can also be hydrolyzed with water, if appropriate in the presence of an inert solvent and/or bases, to give, without further treatment, the products containing the free carboxyl groups. The fluorosulfato derivatives in which X is CF3 in the side chain end groups are first decomposed in the presence of catalytic amounts of alkali metal fluorides and/or aprotic nitrogen bases to give the products containing the side chain end groups and the latter are then hydrolyzed to give the products containing the free carboxyl group. Virtually non-crosslinked fluorocarbon polymers containing carboxyl groups are of industrial importance in the form of cation exchanger membranes in electrolytic cells, particularly in chlor-alkali electrolysis.

The invention also relates to the new compounds of the formula I in which R1 denotes a (substituted) phenyl radical and R and X have the meanings mentioned. The compounds of the formula I are valuable intermediate products in the preparation of plant protection agents and pharmaceuticals.
