    Abstract: Se describen técnicas para la transmisión de información utilizando símbolos baliza en un sistema de comunicación inalámbrica. En un diseño, un transmisor puede asignar información a múltiples sub-portadores entre una pluralidad de sub-portadores, con la información que se transmite por la posición de los múltiples sub-portadores. El transmisor puede asignar la información a al menos un símbolo no binario. El transmisor puede entonces determinar cada uno de los múltiples sub-portadores con base en un símbolo no binario o puede determinar todas los múltiples sub-portadores con base en un símbolo no binario. El transmisor puede generar un símbolo baliza con la información asignada a los múltiples sub-portadores. El transmisor puede usar mayor potencia de transmisión para los múltiples sub-portadores para permitir que los receptores con geometría baja reciban la información de forma confiable.     Abstract: Techniques are provided to support soft handoff in a frequency hopping OFDMA system (120x). Each sector (104a, 104b, 104c) concurrently supports 'non- handoff users and 'soft-handoff users. A non-handoff user communicates with only one sector, and a soft-handoff user communicates with multiple sectors (104a, 104b, 104c) simultaneously. Non-handoff users are assigned traffic channels by their sole sectors (104a, 104b, 104c), and soft-handoff users are assigned traffic channels by their 'serving' sectors. For each sector, the traffic channels assigned to the non-handoff users are orthogonal to one another and may or may not be orthogonal to the traffic channels assigned to the soft-handoff users. Each sector (104a, 104b, 104c) processes its received signal and recovers the data transmissions from the non-handoff users of that sector. Each sector (104a, 104b, 104c) then estimates the interference (520) due to the non-handoff users and cancels the interference (530) from the received signal. Each sector further processes its interference-canceled signal to recover the data transmissions from the soft-handoff users (540a).

A virtual noise figure is an indication of a virtual noise level at a receiver, which may be higher than an actual noise level at the receiver.     Abstract: Techniques for transmitting null pilots to support interference estimation in a wireless network are described. A null pilot is non-transmission on designated time-frequency resources by a cell or a cluster of cells supporting cooperative transmission to a UE. The received power of the null pilot from the cell or cluster of cells may be indicative of interference from other cells. In one design, a cell in the cluster may determine resources for sending a null pilot by the cell. The cell may transmit the null pilot (i.e., send no transmissions) on the resources to allow UEs to estimate out-of-cluster interference. Some or all cells in the cluster may transmit null pilots on the same resources. The cell may receive interference and channel information from the UE and may send data transmission to the UE based on the interference and/or channel information. Remaining cells in the cluster may reduce interference to the UE.

    Abstract: For soft handoff on the reverse link with restrictive reuse, a wireless terminal searches for pilots transmitted by sectors in a wireless system, measures the detected pilots, selects a serving sector (e.g., the strongest received sector), and identifies non-serving sectors that may receive high interference from the terminal. The serving sector assigns the terminal with subband(s) that are usable by the serving sector and unusable by the non-serving sectors. The terminal transmits data symbols on the assigned subbands to the serving and non-serving sectors. These sectors process the reverse link transmission from the terminal and obtain soft-decision symbols, which are estimates of the transmitted data symbols. The soft-decision symbols from co-located sectors may be combined and then decoded to obtain decoded packets. The sectors may also independently decode the soft-decision symbols, and the decoded packets from these sectors may be combined to obtain final decoded packets for the terminal.
