Abstract:
User exposure to media items is detected and measured. A mobile client device (101) carried by a user digitally samples the audio environment of the user on a regular basis. These samples are transformed into a stream of data signatures and compared with reference media items to detect user exposure to the reference items. Purchase behavior following exposure to selected media content items can be detected and tracked as well, so as to gauge effectiveness of media items such as advertisements.
Abstract:
Signature-based program identification apparatus and methods for use with digital audio and/or video systems are disclosed. The disclosed systems and methods develop signatures of digital audio and/or video content from a digital data stream at two or more sites and compare the signatures to one another to identify the content.
Abstract:
Information about media objects within media streams is inferred based on repeat instances of the media objects within the media streams. A system and methods enable the monitoring of one or more media streams and the identification of repeat instances of media objects (e.g., audio and/or video objects) within the media streams. The monitoring and object repeat identification is performed by one or more server computers on a network. Information about a media object can be inferred based on repeat instances of the media object and based on repeat instances of related media objects. The information is transferred from a server to a client in response to a user query entered at the client through an interactive user interface.
Abstract:
The method of content identification consists of creating a signature to comprise one or more sub-signatures. A sub-signature is created by averaging values of a feature in multiple frames of a content item (24). The electronics device (62) is able to retrieve a first signature of a first content item from a storage means (66) and to receive a second content item using a receiver (68). The device has a control unit (70) which is able to create one or more sub-signatures by averaging values of one or more features in multiple frames of the second content item and using the one or more sub-signatures to create a second signature. The control unit (70) is also able to determine similarity between the two signatures by determining similarity of sub-signatures for a similar feature. The software is able to create a signature for a content item by averaging values of a feature in multiple frames in a sequence of frames in the content item.
Abstract:
An audience measurement system (10) collects data representative of tuned programs rather than of tuned channels, and includes (i) a household metering apparatus (14) which records ancillary codes or extracts program signatures from the programs if no ancillary codes are found therein, (ii) a reference apparatus (32) which monitors broadcast programs to be monitored, which extracts reference signatures therefrom, which records whatever ancillary codes may be associated with these broadcast programs and, if no ancillary codes are present, which compresses and stores a digital replica representative of the braodcast programs to be monitored, (iii) a data collection apparatus (36) which compares the household and reference data to determine (a) which of the broadcast programs to be monitored were selected for viewing and/or listening, (b) which of the metered households selected the braodcast programs to be monitored for viewing and/or listening, and (c) at which times the broadcast programs to be monitored were slected for viewing and/or listening.

Abstract:
In one aspect, an example method for outputting an alert indicating a functional state of a back-up audio-broadcast system involves: a computing device receiving a first audio- stream that represents first audio-content; the computing device generating a first signature based, at least in part, upon an extent of single-channel/multi-channel transitions included within the first audio-content; the computing device receiving a second audio-stream that represents second audio-content; the computing device generating a second signature based, at least in part, upon an extent of single-channel/multi-channel transitions included within the second audio-content; the computing device making a determination that the generated first- signature and the generated second-signature lack a threshold extent of similarity; and responsive to the determination that the generated first-signature and the generated second- signature lack the threshold extent of similarity, the computing device outputting an alert.
Abstract:
Handover of broadcast audio/video content from a first/source device via an intermediate device to a second/destination device. The intermediate device is set up to receive by its own means the same broadcast audio/video content as received by the first/source device. If interruption of play out of the audio/video content by the first/source device is detected by the intermediate device, the intermediate device stores the received audio/video broadcast in timeshift memory. When a presence of the second/destination is detected, the intermediate device connects to the second/destination device and starts timeshifted streaming to the second/destination device.
Abstract:
A Method and a device for obtaining information based on an audio input are disclosed. The method is performed at an electronic device having one or more processors and memory. The method includes: while running a social networking application, sending a first audio input to a server hosting the social networking application, wherein the first audio input is captured in response to a triggering event; retrieving, from the server, a productin formation item associated with a product identified based on the first audio input, wherein the product information item is obtained by comparing at least one audio feature of the first audio input with signature audio features extracted from audio of TV or radio broadcast within a predetermined time span; and displaying the retrieved product information item to a user of the electronic device within the social networking application.
