Abstract: The present disclosure presents methods and apparatuses for improved data rates in a wireless communications environment wherein a user equipment (UE) may receive and transmit signals from a plurality of network entities (NodeBs) which are controlled by separate radio network controllers (RNCs). For example the disclosure presents a method of wireless communication in a multiflow environment which includes establishing a first flow between a serving radio network controller (S RNC) and a first network entity wherein the S RNC controls the first network entity. The method also includes establishing a second flow between the S RNC and a second network entity which is controlled by a drift radio network controller (D RNC). Furthermore the method includes transmitting data to the UE via both the first flow and the second flow.

Another aspect of the disclosure provides for transferring buffered data from a Node B that acts as a serving cell for a UE before a serving cell change to a Node B that acts as a serving cell for the UE after the serving cell change.

The UE may perform a physical random access channel (PRACH) procedure in response to receiving the order and may also initiate a collision resolution procedure. The user equipment may transmit a current channel quality indicator (CQI) of the user equipment on a high speed dedicated physical control channel (HS DPCCH) prior (before beforehand) to achieving collision resolution (i.e. a result from the collision resolution procedure).

Abstract: Adaptive De-Jitter Buffer for Voice over IP (VoIP) for packet switched communications. The de-jitter buffer methods and apparatus presented modify the playback of packets dependent upon whether silence periods are detected inter-sentence or intra-sentence to optimize voice quality in a communication system. In one example, a de-jitter buffer determines the length of at least one silence period associated with a plurality of received packets and determines a time to transmit a portion of the packets based on the determined length of the silence period. In another example, a silence characterizer unit performs this function.

Abstract: Providing for improved wireless communications for user equipment (UE) in a semi-active state is described herein. By way of example, a base station can employ particular wireless channel resources, monitored by a UE in a CELL_FACH state for instance, to trigger channel feedback information from the UE. The trigger can comprise an explicit order instructing the UE to provide data in response, or can include a portion of downlink traffic targeting the UE, where the UE is configured to respond in a suitable manner to receipt of traffic data. The UE can maintain the CELL_FACH state in receiving to and responding to the trigger, and can further receive subsequent traffic data in such state. Accordingly, the subject disclosure provides for improved efficiency and reliability in semi-active state wireless communications.
