Abstract: In a wireless communication system, an apparatus is adapted to inter alia receive, from a user equipment, at least one single-carrier frequency division multiple access, SC-FDMA, symbol transmitted on the frequency resources assigned to the user equipment and comprising one or more pilot symbols generated based on a polyphase sequence, to remove a cyclic prefix in each of the at least one SC-FDMA symbol, and to demodulate the at least one SC-FDMA symbol to obtain received pilot symbols. Another apparatus is adapted to inter alia generate at least one single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) symbol comprising the sequence of pilot symbols, and to transmit the at least one SC-FDMA symbol using frequency resources assigned to the apparatus.

Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data with short-term interference mitigation in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a serving base station may send a message to a terminal to trigger short-term interference mitigation. In response, the terminal may send a message to request at least one interfering base station to reduce interference on at least one resource. Each interfering base station may determine a transmit power level to be used for the at least one resource and may send a pilot at this transmit power level. The terminal may estimate the channel quality of the at least one resource based on at least one pilot received from the at least one interfering base station. The terminal may send information indicative of the estimated channel quality to the serving base station. The serving base station may send a data transmission on the at least one resource to the terminal.

Abstract: For an iterative channel and interference estimation and decoding scheme, prior information for channel gain and interference is initially obtained based on received pilot symbols. Forward information for code bits corresponding to received data symbols is derived based on the received data symbols and the prior information and then decoded to obtain feedback information for the code bits corresponding to the received data symbols. A posteriori information for channel gain and interference for each received data symbol is derived based on the feedback information for that received data symbol. The a posteriori information for the received data symbols and the prior information are combined to obtain updated information for channel gain and interference for each received data symbol. The process can be repeated for any number of iterations. The prior, a posteriori, and updated information may be represented by joint probability distributions on channel gain and interference. The forward and feedback information may be represented by log-likelihood ratios.

Abstract: Techniques for performing data detection for a hierarchical coded data transmission are described. In one data detection scheme, log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) for code bits of a first data stream are initially derived based on received symbols for the data transmission. The LLRs for the first data stream are decoded to obtain decoded data, which is re-encoded and remodulated to obtain remodulated symbols. Interference due to the first data stream is estimated based on the remodulated symbols. LLRs for code bits of a second data stream are derived based on the LLRs for the code bits of the first data stream and the estimated interference. The LLRs for the first data stream may be derived from the received symbols in real-time without buffering the received symbols. The LLRs for the second data stream may be derived after the first data stream has been decoded.

Abstract: Providing for management of wireless communications in a heterogeneous wireless access point (AP) environment is described herein. By way of example, system data of an over-the-air message can be configured to include information identifying a distinct type of transmitting base station. In some aspects, the information can include an access type of the base station and/or a sector ID for distinguishing the base station among large numbers of other base stations. According to other aspects, the information can include wireless channel resources designated for a particular type of base station, or blanked by the transmitting base station, to facilitate interference reduction on such resources. By employing aspects of wireless communication management disclosed herein, efficient and reliable communication can be affected in large heterogeneous AP networks.
