Abstract:
2-4-Dichloro-3-alkyl-6-nitrophenols which are useful as intermediate of cyan couplers in color photography are prepared by sulfonating 4-chloro-3-alkyl-phenols to obtain 5-chloro-4-alkylhydroxybenzenesulfonic acids, chlorinating the acids in an aqueous phase to obtain 3,5-dichloro-4-alkyl-2-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acids and nitrating the sulfonic acids.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a new process for preparing certain optically active purine substituted cyclopentene derivatives including the antiviral agent, carbovir, and novel intermediates used in this process. In particular, this invention concerns a synthesis of (1R-cis)-4-hydroxymethyl-2-cyclopenten-1-ol, an intermediate in this process.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of manufacturing ortho- and para-nitrobenzaldehyde from o-chloro or o-bromobenzaldehyde and p-chloro or p-bromobenzaldehyde respectively through a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction performed in an organic solvent.
Abstract:
A method of synthesizing 2S*, 3R*-6E-(2-hydroxyethylidene)-2-methyl-2-(4,8-dimethyl-5-oxo-7-nonenyl)-oxepan-3-ol, one of the active ingredients in the zoapatle plant, is described. The natural product is useful as a utero-evacuant agent.
Abstract:
A novel method for preparing pentachloronitrobenzene directly from the corresponding pentachlorobenzonitrile compound is disclosed. Pentachlorobenzonitrile is heated in the presence of an excess of sulfuric acid and a nitrating agent, e.g., nitric acid at elevated temperatures of from about 100.degree.C to about 160.degree.C for a time sufficient to convert the pentachlorobenzonitrile to a pentachloronitrobenzene. In one embodiment the pentachlorobenzonitrile compound is first heated in the presence of an excess of concentrated sulfuric acid at temperatures in excess of 180.degree.C to activate the pentachlorobenzonitrile and the activated material is then heated at lower temperatures of about 100.degree. to 120.degree.C in the presence of a nitrating agent to convert the activated pentachlorobenzonitrile to the corresponding pentachloronitrobenzene.
Abstract:
Alpha -nitro-cinnamic acid derivatives which are useful in preparing phenylalanines, and a process for obtaining the derivatives by treating the corresponding cinnamic acid esters with nitric oxide or nitrogen dioxide.
