[Also in Division E2] A clamp 10 for transmitting a pulling force comprises a member 11 with angled ends 13, 15 one of which is adapted for connection to pulling means and the other mounts a pin 19 aligned with the first end, and jaws 21, 23 pivotally mounted on the pin. The angled ends permit the clamp to be used over an obstruction, e.g. in straightening a motor vehicle, Fig. 1 (not shown.) Teeth on the jaws are directed towards a point where the centre line of the pin 19 intersects a hook 14 on the end 13. A frusto-conical projection 22 on the end 15 bears in a recess 46 in the jaws 21, 23, which are closed by bolts 29 and located by pins 38. The pin 19 has a spring- pressed detent 26 at one end and a cross-pin 28 at the other.

    Abstract: 1508817 Hydraulic control circuits; reciprocating pumps APPLIED POWER Inc 19 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974] 34453/75 Headings F1A and F1P In an hydraulic circuit, Fig. 2, for tilting a vehicle cab 10, Fig. 1, through an over-centre position by double-acting rams 24, hydraulically operated latches 18, 20 are provided for locking the cab in the lowered position and the hydraulic pump 32, Fig. 2, is driven by a pulsating pneumatic motor 34. A rotary control valve 44 directs hydraulic liquid to the rams 24 and to actuators which move the latches to a disengaged position against the force of springs which hold them in the engaged position. The actuators operate at a lower pressure than the rams 24 so that they are disengaged before tilting commences. A device 51, Fig. 10, includes a ball-valve 67 which holds pressure in the lines to the latches when the cab goes over-centre. When the cab returns to the lowered position it depresses a plunger 83 which unseats the valve 67 to ensure that the latches are again engaged by their operating springs. The control valve is a three-position rotary valve, Figs. 3-5 (not shown), and in the neutral position the rotary core is urged towards the reservoir port to minimize leakage. The pump comprises a piston 146, Fig. 7, which draws liquid through a pipe 40 from a reservoir 38 past a check-valve 152 and pumps the liquid through a check-valve 156 into a conduit 160. A relief valve 159 is provided. A manually operated reciprocating pump 170, Fig. 6, is provided in case of power failures.

    Abstract: A seal for a vane type fluid pressure motor or pump. The motor or pump comprises a housing having a chamber receiving a rotor, an elongated bore extends through the housing and the rotor and receives a shaft which is drivingly engaged by the motor through a splined connection. A seal assembly is disposed on either side of the rotor to prevent leakage from the area between the side walls of the rotor and the side walls of the chamber and into the elongated bore. Each seal assembly is comprised of a cylindrical sleeve affixed to a side wall of the rotor and extends axially therefrom. The assembly is disposed in an annular recess in the bore at a point adjacent the rotor. The sleeve is affixed to the rotor for rotation therewith and is spaced from an undercut portion of the housing wall. The undercut defines the annular recess. An annular elastomeric sealing member is disposed in the recess and is affixed at its radially outward side to the recess wall and surrounds and snugly engages the sleeve. The oil seal assembly is independent of the shaft. The sealing member is constructed so that the leakage pressure assists in forcing the member into further sealing engagement with the rotating sleeve.

    Abstract: An apparatus for reforming and straightening damaged bodies and frames of vehicles whereby corrective forces are applied to the vehicle through one or more elongated force transmission elements. A force is imposed on the elongated elements respectively by means of a uniquely mounted hydraulic ram which is freely pivotable sideways and limitedly pivotable in a backward direction. Each of the hydraulic rams are attached to a frame situated beneath the vehicle to be straightened whereby the frame further supports a measuring bridge coupled to the vehicle so that the progress of a straightening operation can be readily determined. The measuring bridge includes vertical indicators which are coupled at datum points on the vehicle so that an operator can readily gauge the deformity of the vehicle longitudinally, laterally and vertically with respect to its center line. An operator can gauge the progress of the straightening operation in conjunction with target elements which indicate the ultimate degree of straightening necessary to reform the vehicle. The system thus permits a force to be applied to the vehicle in any desired direction or magnitude until such time as the measuring bridge indicates that the target dimensions have been reached providing a highly accurate and simplified technique of straightening and reforming vehicle bodies or frames.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring toe in vehicle wheels. The apparatus ordinarily includes a pair of head units. Each of the head units is mounted upon one of the front wheels of the vehicle. Each head unit includes a projecting element for projecting a light beam generally laterally across the front of the vehicle and onto a target on the opposite head unit in determining front toe of the respective front wheels. Each head unit can also project a beam generally axially from the front wheel of the vehicle to a reflector on the adjacent rear wheel for determination of rear toe of the respective rear wheels. A metering device is connected operatively to signal generators on the head units for determining the toe in each front wheel in relation to a thrust-line reference calculated from the total rear toe of the vehicle.
