Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for compensating varying thermal expansion of rolls on the stand of a strip mill to obtain a strip without the defect of quarter buckle. SOLUTION: This mill stand has a pair of shiftable rolls with which the roll gap profile which is varied along the length of the roll by a polynomial equation of the sixth degree is formed on the way and flatness of the strip delivered from the mill stand is controlled by detecting the roll temperature profile and by adjusting the side shift position of the roll so as to compensate the expansion of the roll caused by the variation of the roll temperature. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve appearance of a cast ingot of an aluminum base metal, to exclude surface defects and to reduce surface oxidation by adding a specified ratio of strontium and a specified amt. of additives selected from alkaline earths, rare earths, transition metals and a crystal grain refining agent to the aluminum base metal. SOLUTION: In combination with aluminum and an aluminum alloy as melts, about 0.0001 to 0.50 wt.% strontium and, if required, about

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a degree of freedom of a production by arranging a core material and a sheet having a joining clad and mechanically adhering flux to a sheet to conduct CAB brazing an aluminum brazing assembly with using a single process and with eliminating use of the flux. SOLUTION: In coating flux 19 on a sheet 13, the flux supplied in a flux hopper 22 is applied at a dry state by a general static electricity device or is applied at a wet state by using a carrier. When the flux 19 is rolled/applied on the sheet 13 between a pair of rollers 24 and heated/dried by the hot air from a heat source 26, the carrier of the flux 19 is evaporated, the flux 19 is left on the surface of the sheet 13, the sheet is coiled to a coiling wheel 32. By this method, a brazing sheet adhering the flux 19 can conduct stronger brazing by directly assembling, the flux is not required to apply on an assembly preassembled.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten metal supply system that can supply a molten metal to a downstream process at a constant pressure and flow rate.SOLUTION: The molten metal supply system 16 includes: a molten metal supply source; a plurality of injectors 18a, 18b; and a plurality of check valves 32a, 32b. The check valves 32a, 32b includes a first metal sleeve for surrounding a thermal conductive first core. The first metal sleeve includes a device for heating and cooling the thermal conductive first core.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold structure where the flow of a molten metal is controlled in such a manner that the quantity of oxides present on an ingot surface can be made minimum in DC casting for aluminum. SOLUTION: A DC casting mold 200 comprises a cooling tubular body 100 that has a thermally insulated insert 400 attached to its top surface. The thermally insulated insert has a bottom portion with a beveled sidewall 402, which forms an angle with a horizontal plane layer 130 of the molten metal and creates an eddy. The eddy causes a substantial number of oxides that are formed during the casting process to remain in the bottom sidewall portion of the thermally insulated insert of the mold, thereby substantially reducing the number of ingot surface imperfections that promote ingot cracking. In addition, the eddy promotes break-up of the oxides into smaller pieces as the oxides flow toward the cooled inner walls of the cooled tubular body, thereby having limited surface area for growth of an oxide layer. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing system and method capable of solving various restrictions on a present embodiment of a crush tube absorbing system loaded in an axial direction. SOLUTION: This energy absorbing system and method is comprised of a crush tube, a taper structure portion, and a flare structure portion. The crush tube is inserted in a matching hole of the taper structure portion. When the taper structure portion and the flare structure portion are moved on the crush tube, the taper structure portion decreases a diameter of the crush tube, and the flare structure portion divides the crush tube into a plurality of petals. The crush tube may include a plurality of initiator slits for supporting flaring processing. When attached by a vertical shaft of the crush tube parallel with an impact axis, the energy absorbing system can absorb a large majority or all of collision accidents by eliminating energy by tapering, flaring, friction, and another method. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forged aluminum sheet product (2) having textured surfaces (4) for improving heat transfer property. SOLUTION: A plurality of textured features (6) having dimensions of about 1 to 50 microns are applied onto one or both sides of a sheet (2) by way of rolling texturing. The aluminum sheet can be used as the fin or tubing of a heat exchanger.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and economically performing polishing work for removing defects such as orange peel, flaws and the like for smoothing and making glossy the surface of a skin sheet of an aircraft. SOLUTION: This method includes the step of performing sand paper polishing the outer surface of an aircraft part by a mechanical sand paper polishing machine to remove most of defects, the step of removing the defects not removed in the sand paper polishing step or the other defects, which is an intermediate finishing step for one or plural times, and a step of polishing and finishing the surface which has been sand paper polished plural times by a finishing polisher.
