Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorption system and method solving a variety of limits with respect to present embodiment of a crush tube absorption system loaded in an axial direction. SOLUTION: The energy absorption system and method comprised of a crush tube, a taper component, and a flare component. The crush tube is inserted into a matching hole in the taper component. As the taper and flare components are moved down over the crush tube, the taper component decreases the diameter of the crush tube and the flare component splits the crush tube in a plurality of petals. The crush tube may include a plurality of initiator slits to aid in the flaring process. When mounted with the longitudinal axis of the crush tube parallel to an axis of an impact, the present invention is capable of absorbing some or all of the crash event by dissipating energy by the tapering, flaring, friction, and other methods. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating the surfaces of piled aluminum alloy ingots in a heating process. SOLUTION: Spacer blocks are set adjacently to aluminum alloy ingots so as to form an accumulated body. In this case, the spacer block has a support face which is in contact with the contact face of the aluminum alloy ingot, and at least one of the support face and the contact face contains a fluorine- containing material. The accumulated body is heated to a temperature at which the fluorine-containing material is decomposed or vaporized so as to form a layer of fluorinated oxide on the boundary between the ingot and the spacer block.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight sliding door formed of a thin plate which is capable of maximizing an indoor space of a vehicle, and making easy access to a door component. SOLUTION: A sliding door for vehicles including a space frame 216 formed from a U-shaped extruded aluminum tube and a crossbeam to which inner and outer aluminum door panels 222 are attached. A device 206 for operation of the door is mounted on the exposed inside surface of the door. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous pressure type molten metal supply system and a method therefor to manufacture continuous metal products. SOLUTION: A molten metal supply system 90 includes a plurality of injectors (100) each having an injector housing 102 and a reciprocating piston 104. A molten metal supply source 132 is in fluid communication with the housing 102 of each of the injectors 100. The piston 104 is movable through a first step of allowing molten metal 134 to be received into the housing 102 from the molten metal supply source 132, and a second step of supplying the molten metal 134 from the housing 102. A pressurized gas supply source 144 communicates with the housing 102 of each of the injectors 100 through respective gas control valves 146, and in fluid communication with the housing 102. A molten metal supply system 90 communicates with a discharge manifold 140 having a plurality of outlet dies 404, and capable of manufacturing the continuous metal articles such as tubes, bars, ingots, and continuous plates. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new apparatus and a method for coating a can stock, a lid stock, a tub stock and a food container stock. SOLUTION: The invention is an apparatus and a method for coating both surfaces of an aluminum strip continuously processed by extruding a polymeric film onto the aluminum strip. Generally, the aluminum strip is uncoiled, passed through a preheating unit, two extrusion heads, a post-heater, an air quench and a lubricator, and then recoiled. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
