Abstract:
A system for a pipeline cascaded content addressable memory CAM system for sequentially processing input data includes an input register, a CAM core, cascade logic and an output register. As the memory association functions produce matches in the CAM core, the cascade logic in parallel composites data associated with each matching CAM core. Each cascade processes a separate data input simultaneously then passes on the cumulative results to the next stage.
Abstract:
A technique for delivering analog video over fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks addresses a fundamental problem of the standard signal format, i.e., power budget constraint, by increasing the useable optical signal efficiency. In particular, a technique is provided for transmitting an efficient modified analog video which is compatible with existing receivers. More specifically, the synchronization portion of a standard NTSC video signal (92) is reduced in amplitude (98) during transmission, producing an appreciable increase in the allowable optical modulation index (OMI).
Abstract:
The cryptographically secure pseudo-random bit generator (100) includes a front-end generator (102), a selector (104), a random function processor (106), a graph processor (108), and a bit-wise exclusive-or circuit (110). This cryptographically secure pseudo-random bit generator (100) stretches bit strings by the use of certain one-way functions acting on the bit strings. In addition, bit strings are generated from other input bit strings using expander graphs. The stretched bit strings and the bit strings from the expander graphs are combined in the bit-wise exclusive-or circuit.
Abstract:
An integrated network for provisioning services, comprising a broadband network (1700), a telephone network (1702), an integrated service control point (1704) connected to both the broadband network (1700) and the telephone network (1702), a display at a user's remote location (112), a system for interfacing (110) with a user on the display to collect from the user information concerning a broadband service or a telephone service, a system for updating the user's broadband processing record (302) to initiate a selected broadband service if the user inputs information about a broadband service, and a system for updating the user's telephone call processing record (1900) to initiate a selected telephone service if the user inputs information about a telephone service.
Abstract:
In the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) standard, availability of directory services is increased by apparatus and methods using agents inserted between requesting clients and servers. By using agents, additional functions are carried out which are not performed in a typical DCE environment. Each agent (68) inserts itself between the requesters (78) and servers (60) by writing over the pointer to the server (60) with information pointing to the agent (68), thus redirecting requests to themselves. The agent (68) then receives incoming requests and forwards them on to its associated server (62) and other agents (76). The agent (68) handling requests for the master server (60) is called the "master" agent and the agents handling requests for replica servers are "replica" agents. The agents make sure requests are performed before replying to the original requester. Agents also monitor themselves. If a master agent (68) crashes, the remaining agents (76) elect a new master agent. If a replica agent (76) crashes, the master agent excludes the agent (76) from further communications. The apparatus and methods provide a highly available and robust directory server.
Abstract:
An InP-based opto-electronic integrated circuit including an active layer having one or more quantum wells (36, 38). According to the invention, a barrier layer (34) of AlGaInAs is formed, preferably between the quantum wells and the substrate (30) to prevent the migration of species from the substrate and lower InP layers that tend to shift the emission wavelengths of the quantum wells to shorter wavelengths, i.e., blue shift. The barrier layer can be patterned so that some areas of the quantum wells exhibit blue shifting to a shorter wavelength while other areas retain their longer wavelength during annealing.
Abstract:
Protection Bundles (PB) facilitate efficient protection switching in a network and can be applied at any network layer. A PB is preferably assigned to all working signals sharing the exact same protection facilities. The working facilities that a PB traverses define a Bundled Protection Fragment (BPF) (564, 568). The end-points of the BPF exchange coordination protocol messages along the protection facilities when necessary. The protection facilities between the end-points of a BPF define each BPF's Common Protection Route (CPR) (566, 570).
Abstract:
A method for enabling the integration of the Personal Access Communications System (PACs) (2) which supports low-tier radio, wireless communication devices with a GSM network (1) used to support high-tier, cellular devices to allow connection of the PACs system (2) to public switched telephone networks that do not have Advanced Intelligent Network capabilities. The functions of the conventional PACs Access Manager are redistributed among the various components of the PACs/GSM integrated system. Modifications to the PACs protocol to make it compatible with GSM protocol are detailed.
Abstract:
Personal communications service (PCS) system for locating nomadic users by utilizing two strategies and a per-user criterion for determining which strategy to be used. The system augments basic low-level strategies for locating users specified in IS-41 and GSM standards of PCS systems. One strategy utilizes forwarding pointers and the other uses per-user location caching. A call-to-mobility ratio (CMR) is one user-criterion. A variation of this criterion is the local CMR (LCMR) which is the ratio of the average rate at which the user receives calls from a given registration area to the average rate at which the user moves. The system reduces the average time and overhead required to locate and deliver information to such nomadic users.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for parsing foreign telephone numbers according to the nature of the address of those numbers. In particular, a method for parsing a telephone number in an intelligent service control point of a telephone network comprising the steps of determining the nature (610) of the address of the telephone number as national, international, or other; and extracting the fields (615) of the telephone number according to the nature of the address.
