    Abstract: An in-line digital cable television adapter and method for receiving and converting digital television signals to an analog format for display on an analog television set. Dual-capable video decryption and decoding is availab le to support a television, VCR, and a picture-in-picture independently and simultaneously. Dual-BTSC audio and video frequency modulators are available for output. A bypass switch selectively switches between television channels for modulation and for passing an analog supplied television signal directly to the analog television set. An infrared transceiver integrated with the digital cable adapter receives infrared frequencies from a compatible infrar ed remote control and stimulates input to a target infrared receiver.

    Abstract: A method of data synchronisation in a broadcast data receiver (BDR) (4) is provided. The BDR (4) receives data broadcast from a remote location via cable, satellite and/or terrestrial communication means and decodes said data to provide video, audio and/or auxiliary data. The method includes the steps of previewing the data ahead of a start point (106) at which decoding of a data stream (102, 104) is to be initiated in order to identify a time stamp (108) in the data stream, calculating the time period that will be taken to reach the time stamp (108) from the start point (106) and subtracting this time period from the time stamp (108) to provide a pseudo clock reference value for the playback of recorded video and audio data streams (102, 104) from the BDR (4).

    Abstract: A method of registering a device 10 in a network is provided. The network includes one or more items of electrical apparatus 6. The network is opened for registration by actuating a registration mode in one of the electrical items 6 which results in the electrical item 6 providing a pre-determined communication range for a pre-determined period of time.     Abstract: A method for the control and application of a power supply to a low noise block (LNB) device and/or associated apparatus connected to a broadcast data receiver for satellite television. The method uses control means which, upon the switching on of the power supply, checks the voltage level at the LNB and if the voltage level exceeds a predefined threshold the LNB is deemed to be operable. If the voltage level is below the threshold level, the LNB is deemed to be inoperable, the power supply is switched off and then reapplied a period of time later and again the voltage level is checked. This allows genuine failure to be detected but allows initial failure due to capacitance loading to be overcome and an operable LNB to be accurately detected.
