Abstract: A method for plating an aluminium wheel is provided to improve surface gloss, the corrosion resistance against salt or salty water, acid resistance and abrasion resistance and to lower the manufacturing cost compared with a chromium wheel. A method for plating an aluminium wheel comprise the steps of shooting short balls to the surface of an aluminium wheel to remove the foreign substances from the surface of an aluminium wheel; pre-processing the surface of an aluminium wheel; coating the aluminium wheel surface with a mixed powder paint by corona electrostatic painting and drying it at 230±10 °C for 10 min; polishing and washing it to improve the surface and to remove the contaminant; sputtering it in a vacuum chamber filled with Ar to form a thin film on the aluminium wheel surface by the momentum exchange; and coating the aluminium wheel surface with an acrylic powder or an acrylic liquid paint to form a transparent coating.
