Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing Flos Hemerocallis fulva extract is provided to strongly suppress depression and to be used in a pharmaceutical composition and health food. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating depression contains Flos Hemerocallis fulva extract as an active ingredient. The extract is isolated from roots, flowers, or whole plant of Flos Hemerocallis fulva using water including purified water, low alcohol of C1-C4, or mixture solvent thereof. A method for preparing the extract comprises: a step of adding 1-100 times(v/w) of water, low alcohol of C1-C4, or mixture solvent thereof to dried Flos Hemerocallis fulva; a step of extracting by enfleurage, hot water extraction, sonication, reflux extraction, or heating at 30-110°C for 1-5 hours; and a step of filtering, decompressing and drying the extract.
