    Abstract: A Ba-Sr-Ca-containing compound is provided to give a white light emitting phosphor having excellent light emitting intensity, light conversion efficiency and color purity. A Ba-Sr-Ca-containing compound is obtained by heat treating, as a staring material, a mixture of Ba oxide; Sr oxide; Ca oxide; oxide of Eu, Mn, Sm, Sn, Sb, Ce, Pr, Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb or Bi; Mg oxide; and oxide of Si or Ge, under reductive atmosphere.     Abstract: A red phosphor is provided to realize excellent light conversion efficiency and color purity, and to impart improved reliability to a light emitting device including a light emitting diode. A red phosphor is represented by the formula of (Sr1-x-y-zCaxEuyMnz)2P2O7 (wherein x= 0.1, y ranges from 0.02 to 0.03, and z ranges from 0.08 to 0.12), and has the maximum emission peak at a wavelength rage of 600 nm or higher. The red phosphor is excited by the irradiation of electromagnetic waves of a UV or near-UV range. Preferred examples of the red phosphor include (Sr0.78Ca0.1Eu0.02Mn0.1)2P2O7, (Sr0.8Ca0.1Eu0.02Mn0.08)2P2O7, (Sr0.76Ca0.1Eu0.02Mn0.12)2P2O7, or (Sr0.77Ca0.1Eu0.03Mn0.1)2P2O7.
