Abstract: PURPOSE: A washing machine and a controlling method thereof are provided to clean a rear side of a drum during cleaning, washing, and spin-drying, thereby reducing time consumption and power consumption for drum cleaning. CONSTITUTION: A drum(30) is rotatively installed inside a tub(20). A washing device sprays water for a cleaning process of the drum. A controller performs the cleaning process of the drum while carrying out cleaning, rinsing or spin-drying processes. The washing device is connected to a tub installed on an outer side of the drum. A nozzle controls a spraying direction of the water. The nozzle is installed to head toward a rear center of the drum. A circulation device circulates water inside the tub.
