PURPOSE: A method of forming a thumbnail image for a menu screen is provided to make the thumbnail image have close correlation with the contents of program to be indexed. CONSTITUTION: An indexing number and a thumbnail image identification symbol are given to a video object to be indexed and stored in a program chain information table. The thumbnail image identification symbol and a thumbnail manager having position information of a video object corresponding to the thumbnail image identification symbol are recorded in a thumbnail manager area. A thumbnail image with respect to the video object is formed in such a manner that the thumbnail image identification symbol for the indexing number is obtained with reference to the program chain information table, the position information of the video object corresponding to the thumbnail image identification symbol is acquired with reference to the thumbnail manager, and the thumbnail image is formed from the video object corresponding to the position information.

PURPOSE: A recordable media for storing virtual deletion information for still pictures is provided to display and edit still pictures of large volume, original audio and secondary audio data in a still picture unit, to correspond to after-recording of the audio data, and to effectively manage information. CONSTITUTION: A recordable media for storing virtual deletion information for still pictures includes a number of still pictures, a number of first virtual deletion information(303), a number of supplementary audio parts, and connection information. The connection information shows a relationship between the still pictures and the supplementary audio parts. The connection information contains general information of the supplementary audio group and supplementary audio group information. The virtual deletion information informs whether or not it is possible that the corresponding supplementary audio part of the supplementary audio parts is produced now.

PURPOSE: A disc recording medium adapted for preparing a thumbnail video for a menu screen is provided to enable a user to prepare a thumbnail video closely related to a subject of a program by obtaining a thumbnail video for a program from a corresponding program(moving picture or still image program) or a thumbnail file having prepared many thumbnail videos. CONSTITUTION: A thumbnail(32) expresses contents of a still image title. A thumbnail(34) expresses contents of a movie title. A thumbnail(36) expresses contents of a thumbnail VOB(Video OBject). The reference number(30) expresses a background screen. In the case that a thumbnail video is prepared from still images(32), the thumbnail video is prepared by compressing one image out of a still VOB. In the case that a thumbnail is prepared from a movie(34), the thumbnail video is prepared by compressing a screen(generally, intra screen) included in a movie VOB. In the case that a thumbnail is prepared from a thumbnail VOB(36), the thumbnail is one image out of images recorded in a thumbnail VOB recorded by a user or a recording device. A thumbnail video identifier necessary for obtaining a thumbnail video from a VOB is stored in a program chain information table. A menu control unit obtains the thumbnail video identifier stored in the program chain information table for loading a corresponding program or a thumbnail video of a chapter. The thumbnail video identifier is connected to the VOB by a thumbnail manager.

PURPOSE: A recorder, in which multi-stream is recorded, a device and a method for recording multi-stream, and a device and a method for producing multi-stream are provided to easily replace and correct various data, and to read a number of bit streams at the same time. CONSTITUTION: A recorder, in which multi-stream is recorded, includes main data, sub-data, and navigation information. The main data contains audio data and/or video data. The sub-data is recorded bit stream different from the main data, and synchronizes and is produced with the main data. The navigation information define correlationship between the main data and the sub-data to synchronize the main data and the sub-data.

PURPOSE: A recordable media for storing virtual deletion information for still pictures is provided to delete original audio and secondary audio data corresponding to the still pictures, to secure a free area for recording new data, to edit and display not only the original audio but also the secondary audio data in a still picture unit, and to effectively manage by having video map and/or audio map information of the still picture information. CONSTITUTION: A recordable media for storing virtual deletion information for still pictures includes a number of still pictures, first virtual deletion information(303) informing whether or not it is possible that the corresponding still picture of the still pictures is produced now, and still picture group information for dividing the still pictures as groups.

본 발명에는 정지화를 위한 정보를 저장하는 기록 매체와 기록재생방법과 장치가 개시되어 있다. 본 발명은 기록 및 재기록 가능한 기록 매체에 있어서 복수장의 정지화 데이터와 정지화에 부가된 오디오 데이터를 각각의 파일로 기록하지 않고 하나의 파일 또는 논리적으로 일차원적인 순서를 가지는 공간에 모두 기록한 다음 소정의 최대 개수 이내로 그룹화하여 이를 관리하는 정지화 그룹 정보를 저장함으로써, 최소한의 정보 데이터를 이용하여 대용량의 정지화 및 이에 부가되는 오디오 데이터를 기록재생하는 것을 가능하게 한다. 이 정지화 그룹 정보에는 기록되는 정지화 및 부가된 오디오 데이터의 비트스트림 순서대로 복수장에 해당하는 데이터를 묶어서 공통적으로 해당하는 정보를 정지화 그룹 일반 정보로 하고, 그룹 내부의 각각의 정지화의 비디오 및 오디오 정보를 구성한다. 정지화 그룹 일반 정보에는 그룹내의 첫 번째 정지화가 시작되는 위치 등이 들어 있고, 각각의 비디오 및 오디오 정보에는 각각의 데이터 크기 등이 있어 효율적인 정보 관리가 가능하다.

PURPOSE: A recording medium storing digital data, a method and a system for reproducing the digital data are provided to record and reproduce digital data having a data structure that is interpreted and presented by a digital TV or HDTV. CONSTITUTION: A recording medium(10) records menu data(100) and main data(400). The menu data displays at least one menu. The main data includes at least one of audio data and video data and at least one file that is reproduced when a predetermined menu is selected. A digital data reproducing system includes a data reading unit for reading menu data recorded in a markup language and a main data having at least one file linked with a selected menu and called in its file name, a markup language interpretation engine for interpreting the read menu data to display the menu data in accordance with the grammar of the markup language, and a converter for converting the menu data into a reproduced signal and converting the file into a reproduced signal.

PURPOSE: A signal recording/reproducing device is provided to include a supplementary storage medium to overcome limitations of a storage capacity of a main storage medium, and to consecutively reproduce data stored in the supplementary storage medium and data stored in the main storage medium, thereby recording the data consecutively and reproducing the data consecutively recorded on the supplementary storage medium automatically. CONSTITUTION: When remaining capacities of a main storage medium(222) are smaller than capacities of data to be recorded, a supplementary storage(230) stores the rest data to be recorded on a supplementary storage medium(232). A consecutive reproduction controller(240) decides whether to consecutively reproduce data stored in the main storage medium and the data stored in the supplementary medium, and controls a reproduction operation according to a decided result. The consecutive reproduction controller reads an index stored with data in a final data recording region of the main storage medium, and decides whether the read data is a portion of consecutive data, to control whether to consecutively reproduce the data stored in the supplementary storage medium during reproduction.

PURPOSE: A data recording/reproducing device is provided to convert a bit rate of data of a large-capacity recording medium according to a capacity of a storage medium for backing up the data, thereby storing the data in one storage medium as having a maximum resolution. CONSTITUTION: A resolution setup block(220) stores all data to be backed up in the second recording medium(210) if a storage capacity of the second storage medium is smaller than a capacity of the data. The resolution setup block calculates a bit rate to maintain a maximum resolution. If the storage capacity of the second storage medium is equal to or bigger than the capacity of the data to be backed up, the resolution setup block maintains the bit rate without converting the bit rate. The resolution setup block sets a bit rate selected by a user to a conversion bit rate of the backup data. A transcoder(230) converts a bit rate of data stored in the first storage medium(200) according to the bit rate decided from the resolution setup block, and backs up the converted data in the second storage medium.

PURPOSE: An optical recording/reproducing system is provided to allocate a channel identification code to a sub audio data stream contained in each audio data stream or select an audio channel. CONSTITUTION: A pick-up unit(140) picks up an optical signal from a disc, and an RF amplifier(130) converts the optical signal into an electric signal and extracts a servo signal and modulated data from the electric signal. A digital signal processor(120) demodulates the modulated data to output a compressed A/V data stream. A servo unit(150) receives information required for servo control from the RF amplifier to perform servo control. An AV codec(110) decodes the compressed A/V data stream to output an A/V data stream including a plurality of audio data streams. A key input unit(170) inputs keys for switching recording/reproducing of program having sub audio data streams in/from the disc. A system controller(160) performs user interface, and controls the pick-up unit, RF amplifier, digital signal processor, servo unit and AV codec.
