    Abstract: PURPOSE: A detecting apparatus of replacement time for a timing belt and a control method thereof are provided to detect the replacement time of the timing belt accurately by estimating and displaying tension of the timing belt with a crank sensor and a cam position sensor, and to reduce the weight by simplifying the structure without additional units. CONSTITUTION: A replacement time detecting device of a timing belt is composed of a crank sensor(1) detecting and outputting the rotational angle of an engine crankshaft; a cam position sensor(2) detecting and outputting the rotation position of the cam; and an ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(4) detecting the top dead center of a first cylinder according to a crank sensor signal by receiving waveform from the crank sensor and the cam position sensor, calculating the time difference by detecting the increase edge of the cam position sensor signal, and deciding trouble on tension of the timing belt in case of time difference to be beyond the error range. The replacement time of the timing belt is detected accurately by estimating and displaying the tension of the timing belt with the crank sensor and the cam position sensor.
