    Abstract: PURPOSE: A garnish for a vehicle and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to prevent the damage of coating surfaces of a trunk lid by injection-molding body and edges of the garnish from ABS resin and polystyrene TPE resin, respectively. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing a garnish for a vehicle comprises the steps of: providing first and second rotary molds(10,20) symmetric with respect to a rotary shaft and having the same cavity, and first and second movable molds(30,40) having different cavities(60,70) and injectors(50); moving the first movable mold forward to the first rotary mold and combining the first movable mold with the first rotary mold; injecting ABS(Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) resins into the cavities in the first rotary and movable molds through the injector in the first movable mold to injection-mold a main body of the garnish; after separating the first movable mold from the first rotary mold, rotating the first rotary mold in a 180-degree arc and combining the first rotary mold with the second movable mold; injecting polystyrene TPE(Thermoplastic Elastomer) or olefin TPE resins into the cavities in the second movable mold through the injector in the second movable mold to injection-mold edges of the garnish; and moving the second movable mold backward, and separating the first the injection-molded garnish from the first rotary mold.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a silicon nitride composition which has much improved toughness by adding beta-Si3N4 with a high aspect ratio as a seed to conventional silicon nitride composition for engine parts. CONSTITUTION: The high toughness silicon nitride is prepared by the following steps: adding 0-20wt.%(based on alpha-Si3N4) of beta-Si3N4 as a seed to conventional Si3N4 composition comprising alpha-Si3N4, Y2O3, Al2O3 and AlN as starting materials which are composed of alpha-Si3N4 : AlN : 5Al2O3 : alpha+beta-Si3N4 in a ratio of 18.2 : 1 : 2 : 20; sintering at 1600-2000deg.C for 3-4hrs. The resultant Si3N4 composition is applied to engine parts requiring abrasion resistance, heat resistance and high toughness.
