CONSTITUTION: The engine RPM changing for fixed hour is determined in a start-up of the engine(S101). The counter-rotating of the engine is detected in the start-up of the engine(S102). A failure of the engine is determined if there is counter-rotating of the engine(S103) based on the engine RPM changing. The engine is stopped by prohibiting fuel injection and an engine warning lamp is turned on in a failure determining step.

In detecting an installation flag of optional option device, a self-diagnosis is performed according to a driving by recognizing as an installation of the device and the result is stored and outputted(S104,S105). Without detecting the installation flag, a self-diagnosis port is set as a default by recognizing as an uninstallation of the device. Thereby, the production cost of a vehicle is reduced.
