    Abstract: A converter is described. The converter includes at least one medium voltage stage including an inverter circuit, at least one medium frequency transformer, a first winding of the transformer being electrically connected to the medium voltage stage, at least one DC output stage, the DC output stage being electrically connected to a second winding of the medium frequency transformer, and a plurality of containers having a volume. Each container is configured for holding an insulating fluid inside the volume. Each container has provided within the container one of the at least one medium frequency transformer to be electrically insulated by the fluid. The container includes at least one connector for fluidly connecting the volume with a fluid circuit. A first container of the plurality of containers is fluidly connected to a second container of the plurality of containers via the connector, the at least one connector comprising a valve for opening and/or closing the connector, wherein the valve is configured for fluidly separating the first container from the second container when the connector is closed by the valve.

    Abstract: A converter (100) for transferring power from a medium-voltage, MV, to a low-voltage, LV, side is provided. The converter includes at least one DC/AC cell (10) configured for generating an AC voltage from a MV DC voltage, the DC/AC cell having a MV AC terminal (12). The converter further includes at least one AC/DC cell (14) configured for generating a DC voltage from a LV AC voltage, the AC/DC cell having a LV AC terminal (16). The converter also has a magnetic core (18), a LV winding (20) being wound around the magnetic core and having a LV winding terminal (22), the LV winding terminal being connected to the LV AC terminal of the at least one AC/DC cell. The converter has a MV winding (24) being wound around the magnetic core and having a MV winding terminal (22), the MV winding terminal being connected to the MV AC terminal of the at least one DC/AC cell. The converter includes an auxiliary unit (26) having an auxiliary winding (28) being wound around the same magnetic core and having an auxiliary winding terminal (30), the auxiliary winding terminal being connected to control auxiliary circuits for operating the MV DC/AC cell and a galvanic insulation to galvanically insulate the LV winding from the MV winding and the auxiliary winding. The galvanic insulation between the LV and the MV winding and the auxiliary winding is configured to withstand the Basic Insulation Level (BIL) of the converter.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a flying capacitor converter (100) comprising a protection circuit (170) for protecting the flying capacitor converter (100) from a short-circuit failure of a switch.
