Abstract: PURPOSE:To exclusively produce the titled substance in high conversion, by treating gamma-linolenic acid with soybean lipoxygenase in a system of an organic solvent and an aqueous solution in the presence of an anionic surfactant. CONSTITUTION:gamma-Linolenic acid is dissolved in a binary phase system composed of an organic solvent (e.g., hexane, heptane, etc.) and an aqueous solution. The aqueous solution is a boric acid buffer solution of 6.5pH. gamma-Linolenic acid is treated with soybean lipoxygenase in the above binary phase system in the presence of an anionic surfactant such as sodium polyoxyethylene alkyl ether acetate, sarcosinate L-N, etc., to convert the gamma-linolenic acid to 9-hydroperoxy-gamma- linolenic acid. The objective product is recovered by adding hydrochloric acid to the reaction mixture, extracting the oil-soluble fraction with ethyl acetate, subjecting the extract to dehydrochlorination and dehydration and developing by a reversed phase thin-layer chromatography.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition containing a higher fatty acid or its ester and having excellent dispersibility in water, by adding a higher fatty acid or its ester in liquid state to cyclodextrin and mixing the product. CONSTITUTION:A water-dispersible composition containing a higher fatty acid or its ester is produced by adding a higher fatty acid (e.g. gamma-linolenic acid) or its ester in liquid state to cyclodextrin and mixing the product. A higher fatty acid or its ester is an oily substance immiscible with water. The oily substance can be uniformly dispersed in various aqueous solutions or aqueous slurries and in some oily substances by converting the substance to the present composition. Accordingly, the present composition can be utilized in various fields taking advantage of the physiological activity or pharmacological activity of the higher fatty acid or its ester. The amount of the higher fatty acid or its ester is 1-30pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of cyclodextrin.

CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic or dermal composition obtained by containing a gamma-linolenic acid-containing fat and oil extracted from cells of fungi which are molds belonging to the genus Mortierella. This composition can be applied in the form of a water-in-oil type or oil-in-water type emulsion system, e.g. milky lotion, lotion, shampoo or shaving foam, or more concentrated emulsion system, e.g. facial pack. In this case, the fat and oil of the fungal cells can be contained in an amount of 1-20wt.%. The above-mentioned composition may consists essentially of an oily phase or aqueous phase and is applicable in the form of a solid, e.g. makeup product. In this case the composition can be contained in amount of about 1-30wt%.

CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain selected from Mortierella isabellina, M. vinacea, M. ramanniana vas. anglispora or M. nana, e.g. Mortierella isabellina IFO 7884 is inoculated in a medium containing a carbohydrate as a carbon source and cultured under aerobic condition at 4.0-6.0pH for about 2-15 days. Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain refined glyceride oil effectively removing a gum such as phospholipid, diglyceride, free fatty acid, etc., by extracting crude glyceride oil composition from microorganism, diluting the composition with an organic solvent and contacting with a semipermeable membrane under pressure. CONSTITUTION:A crude glyceride oil composition extracted from microorganism, e.g. from the microbial cell of Mortierella genus is diluted with an organic solvent and the solution is made to contact with one surface of a semipermeable membrane under pressure. The liquid permeated to the other surface of the membrane is collected and the organic solvent is removed therefrom to obtain a glyceride oil having decreased amount of foreign materials. The semipermeable membrane is preferably made of a polyimide polymer, e.g. a polymer having the recurring unit of formula I [R is bivalent aromatic group including the group of formula II [X is -CH2-, -O-, etc.) and formula III (Y is -CH3, etc.) or unit of formula IV (R and R are vibalent aromatic group), especially preferably a polyimide composed of the recurring units of formula V and formula VI.
