Abstract:
A first and second electronic device each including a connection surface and a magnetic element. The first and second devices may be in contact along the respective connection surfaces. The magnetic elements may be configured to align the first and second devices by moving either or both of the first and second devices relative to each other to achieve an aligned position. The magnetic element may also be operative to resist disconnection of first and second electronic devices when in the aligned position.
Abstract:
A dual orientation plug connector having a tab portion with first and second opposing exterior surfaces that are substantially identical, parallel and opposite each other. Each exterior surface may have a plurality of electrical contacts. A substantially u-shaped metallic band surrounds a portion of the periphery of the plug connector. A contact assembly having an upper contact carrier, intermediate conductive plate and lower contact carrier may be disposed within the tab portion of the plug connector. A circuit assembly may be disposed within a body portion of the plug connector and electrically coupled to the plurality of electrical contacts.
Abstract:
A plug connector module that includes a metal frame having a base portion, an insertion end and a cavity that extends from the base portion into the insertion end. The insertion end is configured to be inserted into a cavity of a corresponding receptacle connector. A substrate extends through the base portion of the frame and into the insertion end and has a plurality of contact bonding pads at one end positioned within the frame, a plurality of conductor bonding pads at the opposing end and at least one ground pad contact between the contact bonding pads and conductor bonding pads. A first plurality of external contacts is positioned in a first opening and bonded to some of the plurality of contact bonding pads on the substrate and a second plurality of contacts positioned within a second opening and bonded to some of the contact bonding pads on the substrate.
Abstract:
A dual orientation connector having a connector tab with first and second major opposing sides and a plurality of electrical contacts carried by the connector tab. The plurality of contacts includes a first set of external contacts formed at the first major side and a second set of external contacts formed at the second major side. The first plurality of contacts are symmetrically spaced with the second plurality of contacts and the connector tab is shaped to have 180 degree symmetry so that it can be inserted and operatively coupled to a corresponding receptacle connector in either of two insertion orientations.
Abstract:
Devices and methods of manufacture for improved connector plugs are provided herein. In one aspect, an exemplary connector plug comprises a shield shell having a proximal stepped-down portion and a boot member that fittingly receives the stepped-down proximal portion so that an outer surface of the distal shield shell and the boot member is about flush with a minimal or negligible space therebetween. In some embodiments, the shield shell comprises a separate front shield shell and a reduced profile rear shield shell welded together so as to provide the advantageous reduced profile and improved aesthetic appearance, while maintaining the structural integrity of the connector. In many embodiments, weld strength of the shield shells is improved by providing line-to-line contact between shield shells by using deflectable tabs and/or utilizing thermal expansion properties of one or both shield shells.
Abstract:
A stackable connector interface with magnetic retention for electronic devices and accessories can allow power and data to be transferred between one or more stacked connectors. Each interconnected stackable connector may include one or more magnetic elements, which magnetic elements may have poles arranged to facilitate mating with other stackable connectors. The magnetic elements may also provide a magnetic retention force that holds mated connectors in contact with each other. The connectors can also include connection detection circuitry for determining whether the connectors are mated with other connectors, thereby allowing the connectors to prevent live contacts from being exposed at an unmated surface of the connectors. In addition to connection detection circuitry, routing circuitry may also be included to determine how signals should be transferred between the interconnected stackable connectors and/or corresponding devices.
Abstract:
A system may have structure. The structures may include laminated structures formed by attaching inner and outer layers together with a layer of adhesive. The inner and outer layers in a structure may be formed from polymer such as polycarbonate. Forming the structure layers from polymer may allow the structure to have desired curvature. To improve safety and/or acoustic performance of the structure, the inner and outer structure layers may be formed from different materials. The outer polymer layer may be formed from polycarbonate and the inner polymer layer may be formed from a more brittle polymer such as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
Abstract:
An unpolarized multiple orientation plug connector (100) having a connector tab with first and second major opposing sides and a plurality of electrical contacts (106(1)..106(8)) carried by the connector tab. The plurality of contacts includes a first set of external contacts (106(1)..106(8)) formed at the first major side and a second set of external contacts (106(1)..106(8)) formed at the second major side. Each individual contact (106(1)..106(8)) in the first plurality of contacts is electrically connected within the tab or body to a corresponding contact in the second plurality of contacts (106(1)..106(8)). The connector (100) further comprises at least a first pair of data contacts (106(2), 106(3)), an ID contact (106(8)) and a circuitry (108a, 108b) configured to participate in a handshaking algorithm that communicates the communication protocol used by the first pair of data contacts (106(2), 106(3)) over the ID contact (106(8)).
