Abstract: Copolymers based on ethylene which are suitable as flow improvers for petroleum middle distillates, comprising a) from 50 to 92 % by weight of ethylene, b) from 5 to 30 % by weight of one or more vinyl esters of C2-C6-monocarboxylic acids, c) from 3 to 20 % by weight of one or more aminoalkylene acrylates of the formula I in which R is hydrogen or methyl, the radicals R and R may be identical or different and are hydrogen or a C1-C6-alkyl radical, and A is a straight-chain or branched C2-C10-alkylene radical, and d) from 0 to 10 % by weight of one or more monomers which can be copolymerised with the monomers a) to c), excluding copolymers in which the monomer b) is vinyl acetate and which have a mean molecular weight (number average) of 5000 to 50000, the use of these copolymers as flow improvers for petroleum middle distillates, and petroleum distillates containing these copolymers.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of ionically crosslinked ethylene copolymers (ionomers) by mixing ethylene copolymers containing from 0.1 to 20 mol% of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid derivatives with a cation-donating compound at temperatures above the melting point of the ethylene copolymer in an extruder and degassing the resultant ionomers, where the cation-donating compound is an ionic substance comprising at least one cation and at least one anionic polymer. The ionic substance is in particular in the form of a dispersion.
