The invention relates to a method for producing imidazo[1, 2-a]-5, 6, 7,8-tetrahydropyridine-8-ones, by reacting gamma -butyrolactones with imidazoles. The invention also relates to novel imidazo[1, 2-a]-5, 6, 7,8-tetrahydropyridine-8-ones and the use thereof for producing imidazo[1, 2-a]pyridines.

The invention relates to the use of an imidazole compound of formula (I) as a plasticiser for polyvinyl chloride, in which formula: R 1 represents hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, the last three named groups being unsubstituted, or substituted by alkyl; and R 2 represents alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, the last three named groups being unsubstituted, or substituted by alkyl and the R 2 group having at least 7 carbon atoms.

The invention relates to a method for producing tertiary butyl esters that are substituted in position 2, by the alkylation of the appropriate tertiary butyl ester enolates. In addition, the invention relates to a method for producing corresponding free carboxylic acids by the acidic hydrolysis of the aforementioned tertiary butyl esters and their conversion into additional carboxylic acid esters.

The invention relates to a method for isolating poly- or monomethyl alkanoic acids of the general formula (I), wherein R is the same or different and represents a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon or a methylol group that is produced from the corresponding polymethylol alkanals or monomethylol alkanals of the general formula (II), wherein R has the meaning indicated above, by oxidation with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide. The method further comprises the following steps: a) crystallization, followed by solid/liquid separation (B), thereby obtaining the acid as the first crystallized product (2a) and a mother liquor (3), b) producing in the mother liquor (3) another crystallized product (2b), and removing the resulting mother liquor (3) in another solid/liquid separation (C) from the crystallized product (2b), and c) disposing of the resulting acid-depleted mother liquor (3).

The invention relates to a process for the prepartaion of alkanesulfonic acids, comprising the following steps:(a) oxidation of alkylmercaptans and/or dialkyl disulfides and/or dialkyl polysulfides having from three to nine sulfur atoms with nitric acid to form alkanesulfonic acids, water, nitrogen oxides and other byproducts,(b) regeneration of the nitrogen oxides obtained from step (a) with oxygen to give nitric acid and recycling of the nitric acid to step (a),where steps (a) and (b) are carried out in reaction chambers separate from one another.

Preparation of 1,5-naphthalene diamine (I) comprises: (a) mono nitration of naphthalene to 1-nitronaphthalene; (b) halogenation of obtained 1-nitronaphthalene to 1-halo-5-nitronaphthalene; (c) reaction of obtained 1-halo-5-nitronaphthalene with ammonia to 5-amino-1-nitronaphthalene; and (d) hydrogenation of obtained 5-amino-1-nitronaphthalene to form 1,5-naphthalene diamine. An independent claim is also included for the preparation of 5-amino-1-nitronaphthalene by transition metal catalyzed reaction of 1-halo-5-nitronaphthalene with ammonia.

The invention concerns catalysts suitable for preparing aliphatic alpha-, omega-aminonitriles by partial hydrogenation of aliphatic dinitriles, containing: (a) metallic cobalt, a cobalt compound or their mixtures, the metallic cobalt portion being between 20 and 100 wt % relative to (a); (b) between 10 and 70 wt %, relative to (a), of metallic iron, iron oxide, a further iron compound or their mixtures, the iron oxide portion being between 20 and 100 wt % relative to (b); and (c) between 0 and 1 wt %, relative to (a), of a compound based on an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or zinc.
