    Abstract: Carbon-black-containing hydrocarbon oils having a boiling range of 150-350 DEG C. are regenerated with simultaneous recovery of petroleum coke by introducing the oil and with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas into a fluidized bed of petroleum coke, the oil being introduced at such a distance above the point at which the oxygen is introduced that the oxygen reacts only with the petroleum coke present in the lower portion of the fluidized bed. Steam and carbon dioxide may also be present. The process is preferably effected at 550-690 DEG C. and 1-1.4 atmospheres. A heavy oil may be cracked in the bed simultaneously with the regeneration.

    Abstract: In the cracking of liquid and/or gaseous hydrocarbons in the presence of fluidized granular inert or carbonaceous solids at 650-850 DEG C. to produce gaseous olefins, e.g. ethylene, the effluent containing entrained solid is passed through a cyclone to remove the bulk of such solid and is then contacted with a hydrocarbon oil boiling above 250 DEG C. which is a recycled portion of the product and which quenches the effluent and thereby vaporizing the lower boiling fraction of the recycled oil and removes the remaining entrained solid in the unvaporized higher boiling fraction, such solid is at least partly removed from the quenching oil and the oil is recycled to the fluidized bed reactor. Oxygen and/or steam may be added to the reaction, and pressures of 1.2-1.5 atmospheres are preferred. The solid used is oil coke, ceramic, corundum, sillimanite or sand. The process removes fine-grained solids from the reactor and thereby maintains at least 50%, preferably 70-95%, of the solid within the desired grain size of 100-3000 microns. The quenching oil preferably boils in the range 350-650 DEG C. and, in quenching, a lower boiling oil may be added to assist cooling by evaporation. Solids are removed from the oil by centrifuging to separate 30-100% before recycle.

    Abstract: Gaseous unsaturated hydrocarbons, particularly ethylene and propylene, are prepared by cracking liquid hydrocarbons at 600-900 DEG C., in the presence of 20-200% by weight of steam in a fluidized bed of solid to which is added a small amount of a compound of an element of Group 1a or 2a of the Periodic Table. The liquid hydrocarbon may be a petroleum fraction, crude oil or residue. Normal pressure or increased pressure, e.g. 5-20 atmospheres may be used. Oxygen may also be added separately or mixed with the hydrocarbon. The solid material may be a synthetic or natural material containing magnesium, aluminium or silicon, e.g. sillimanite, corundum or magnesite, or carbon, e.g. high temperature coke anthracite, brown coal low temperature coke or oil coke, preferably that formed in the process. The added compound may be impregnated into the solid or added direct to the bed in solid, pulverulent form, particularly when coke is the solid. The solid may contain 0,01-1% of the element of Group 1a or 2a which is preferably added as the oxide or a compound forming the oxide such as the nitrate or carbonate. Specified elements are sodium, potassium, beryllium, calcium and magnesium. If the initial material contains sulphur this appears in the product as hydrogen sulphide and not the corrosive oxides.
