Abstract: Moulding materials are claimed contg. (a) 100 pts. wt. of polyethylene made with a Cr-contg. catalyst and having a density d is 0.945g/cm3, a melt index (DIN 53735 at 190 degrees C/2, 16 kg) of 1 g/10 min. and a soln. viscosity (DIN 53728 sheet 4) of 1-5cm3/g; (b) 1-10 pts. wt. of a polyethylene with a density of 0.915-0.935g/cm3 and a melt index (as for a) of 0.05-25g/10 mins; (c) 0.05-1 pts. wt. of a tris (2,4-dialkylphenyl)phosphite with 1-9C alkyl gps. (same or different, pref. branched); (d) 0.01-10 pts. wt. of a Ca, Zn or K salt of a 14-22C fatty acid and (e) opt. other known additives. The compsns. are esp. useful for trouble-free prodn. of 10-500 mu m, pref. 10-80 mu m and esp. 10-30 mu m thick biaxially stretched films by the blown film method using a blow-up ratio of 1:10, esp. 1:2-1:7. Use of the particular formulation given allows trouble-free prodn. by this method. The prods. are useful in packaging, carrier bags, etc.

Abstract: Polyolefin moulding material consists of (I) 40-60 wt. % polyethylene, and (II) 40-60 wt. % of a mixt. of (a) 70-90 wt. % polypropylene contg. 1 wt. % material sol. in boiling toluene, at a polypropylene:toluene wt. ratio of 5:95 and (b) 10-30 wt. % polypropylene contg. >99 wt. % material sol. in boiling toluene, at a polypropylene:toluene wt. ratio of 5:95, both polypropylenes having approx. the same mol. wt. distribution, as determined by the gel permeation chromatography method. (I) has a density of 0.935-0.965 g/cm3 and a melt flow index of 1-4g/10 min. (by DIN 53735, at 230 degrees C and 2.16 kg load), and (II) has a density of 0.895-0.910 g/cm3 and a melt flow index of 1-4 g/10 min. the absolute values of the melt flow indices of (I) and (II) being approx. the same. The moulding material has excellent physical props. esp. a good cold impact resistance, and bonding weld strength of injection moulded articles.
