They additionally contain readily soluble sodium salts and/or potassium salts which are inert to sodium dithionite and whose water-solubility at 20 DEG C. exceeds 500 g/l. These salts are present in the aqueous phase in an amount of not less than 200 g/l. The pastes are useful reducing agents.

Abstract: Arsenic, antimony and non-ferrous metals are removed from nickel oxide-free oxidic iron materials, e.g. roasting residues of sulphidic iron ores, ferrites and other oxidic iron ores, the arsenic and/or antimony being present as arsenates or antimonates aund the non-ferrous metals as oxides, by reacting the material with chlorine, diluted with an inert gas or combustion gas containing at the most 6,2% by volume of oxygen, at 700 DEG C. to 1,300 DEG C. The chlorine may be diluted to a concentration of 1 to 30% by volume. In examples, copper is removed from a copper ferrite with a mixture of chlorine and nitrogen, and copper, zinc, lead, arsenic and antimony are removed from a roasted iron ore with a mixture of chlorine and combustion gas.
