    Abstract: 1330725 Paints and lacquers BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 22240/71 Heading C3R [Also in Division C4] 6,14-dichloropyranthrone, which has the formula is used for pigmenting paints and lacquers. In an Example, 167 parts of an aqueous dye paste of the above pigment having a solids content of about 12% by weight are mixed with 64 parts of a solvent free, soybean-oil-modified alkyd resin and 16 parts of bis-ethylhexyl phthalate and formed into a paste. The resulting paste is mixed with a titanium dioxide paste which is prepared by mixing 70 parts of solvent-free soybean-oil-modified alkyd resin with 17À5 parts of bis-ethylhexyl phthalate and 12À5 parts of solvent-free melamine resin and mixing the resulting paste with 30 parts of TiO 2 and 4 parts of a colloidal silica. The resulting dye paste is used to produce a reddish yellow coating of paint which is baked at 120‹ C. for 45 minutes.

    Abstract: A process for mass dyeing thermoplastics comprises using anthraquinone derivatives which contain in the 1-position of the anthraquinone nucleus the radical -NH-X-Ar in which X denotes a linear or branched bridging group containing at least two carbon atoms and Ar denotes an aromatic radical which may bear substituents other than sulphonic acid groups or sulphonamide groups, and which may bear in the 4-position of the anthraquinone nucleus a hydroxy, alkoxy, amino or alkylamino group as a substituent. The anthraquinone derivative used may also contain the said radical -NH-X-Ar in the 4-position of the anthraquinone nucleus. The anthraquinone derivative may also contain the said radical -NH-X-Ar in the 5-position of the anthraquinone nucleus. Preferably, the anthraquinone derivative used has the general formula in which X denotes a linear or branched bridging group having at least two carbon atoms, Ar denotes a phenyl, naphthyl or diphenyl radical which may contain halogen atoms, alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, aryloxy groups, acyl groups, or hydroxy groups which is free from sulphonic acid groups or sulphonamide groups, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, an amino group, an alkoxy group, an alkyl amino group, or an aralkylamino group having the said formula NH-X-Ar, and R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an aralkylamino group having the formula -NH-X-Ar, but in which both radicals R1 and R2 do not denote the radical -NH-X-Ar at the same time. Alternatively, the anthraquinone derivative may have the general formula in which Y denotes one of the radicals R3 denotes a hydrogen atom, the above radical Y, a methylamino group or a hydroxyl group but only a hydrogen atom when R4 denotes the radical Y, and R4 denotes a hydrogen atom or the said radical Y. Thermoplastic materials which may be mass dyed with the said compounds include polyamides, polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene emulsion, suspension or block polymer and copolymers of styrene with butadiene and acrylonitrile or acrylic esters.
