Abstract: Perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid N,N'-bis(n-butylimide) (I) of the formula is used as brown colour for rigid PVC. The brown colour has excellent fastness to light and weather and good compatibility with rigid PVC. The Ir remission is high, so that exposure to sunlight does not cause as strong heating as in the case of other dark pigments. The (I)-coloured PVC profiles are of esp. interest for window frames and shutters as imitation for wood.

Abstract: Perylene 3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide dyes of formula: (in which R is 1-8C alkyl, X is Cl or Br, n is 0-3, the R gps. may the the same or different) are used in paints, resins, printing inks and distempers, and for mass colouring of plastics, in bluish-red shades. Cpds. give strong shades with excellent light-fastness and good weather fastness. Dyes in which R is methyl or ethyl have very good to excellent fastness to solvents, over-painting and plasticisers. The other dyes are more soluble and are pref. for mass colouring of plastics. At higher processing temps. in thermoplastics, fluorescent orange shades are obtd.

Abstract: Method for superficial concn. of light uses a plastic plate which has incorporated in it a fluorescent cpd. of formula (I). R1 are 2-(methyl or chloro)phenyl; 2,3-, 2,4-, 2,5- or 2,6-dimethylphenyl; 2,4-dichlorophenyl; 1-(benzyl, n-butyl, phenyl or 4-chlorophenyl) pyrazol-5-yl; 1-phenyl-3- methylpyrazol-5-yl; 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl, or 2-isopropyl- or 2,4-diisopropyl-phenyl. (I) are highly fluorescent (emitting at 500-600 nm), with very high light fastness and no adverse effects on the plastic medium. They are useful e.g. in solar cells.
