    Abstract: A process for dewatering sewage sludges, the dewatering characteristics of which have been improved by adding an organic flocculant, on a chamber filter press, wherein the greater part of the water in the flocculated sludges is removed by gravity filtration in a process step upstream of the chamber filter press, without application of a pressure difference, and the actual pressure filtration, on the chamber filter press, is only then carried out. In principle, commercial products can be used as the organic flocculant. These are water-soluble, macromolecular compounds which have been obtained by polymerization or copolymerization of acrylamide, acrylic cid and/or their salts, or of esters of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid with specifically modified alcohol components.

    Abstract: COCl2 (I) and/or other harmful Cl-contg. gases are now eliminated from off gases by continuous decompsn. in a high temp., HCl-resistant reactor at >900 degrees C. The reactor is additionally fed with not the stoichiometric amt. H2O for decompsn. of (I) and dwell time in the reactor is >0.1 sec, pref. 0.5-1 sec. Opt. part or all of required H2O and necessary temp. are simultaneously obtd. by burning an inflammable added to the gas mixt. opt. with added air. When the off gas contains large, e.g. >10%, amts. (I) mixt. is fed tangentially into combustion chamber which contains a stable support flame fed by an inflammable and air. When conc. of (I) is high formation of Cl is reduced by using a first stage decompsn. in a deficiency of air followed by second stage decompsn. with stoichiometric amt. air. Alternatively an excess of H2O can be added to the gas mixt. to reduce high concs. of (I).

    Abstract: Process for destroying organic halogen compounds, which are contained in dust-containing gases which have a carbon content of less than 0.6% by weight, by oxidative degradation with the aid of fixed catalysts suitable for this purpose, characterised in that a) the dust is separated off at 250 to 500 DEG C from the gases and the dust-free gas together with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas is passed over the catalyst, or b) the dust is separated off below 250 DEG C, the organic halogen compounds are desorbed from the dust in an oxygen-containing gas stream at 250 to 500 DEG C and the gas stream is passed over the catalyst, or c) the dust-containing gas is passed over the catalyst in the presence of oxygen at 250 to 500 DEG C and the dust is then separated off.
