    Abstract: Metal chelate complexes based on a glycine-diacetic acid derivative as ligand and a multivalent metal ,which is reduced by hydrogen sulfide to a lower oxidation state, are used for removing H2S gas from acid gas streams in a cyclic process involving regeneration with an oxidizing agent. A process for removing hydrogen sulfide from an acid gas stream involves: (a) reducing the amount of H2S gas in the stream by reaction with an aqueous solution containing a metal chelate complex with a ligand of formula (I), the metal being a multivalent metal which can exist in more than one oxidation state and is at least partly in a lower oxidation state (reduced form) after reaction with H2S, (b) regenerating the mixture of elemental sulfur and reduced metal complex with an oxidizing agent so that the metal is oxidized to its original state, and (c) returning the regenerated complex to stage (a). Stages (a) and (b) may be carried out in the same reactor. X = H, alkali metal or ammonium; n = 1, 2 or 3; R -R = H, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, carboxy or hydroxyl, at least one of these groups being other than H. An Independent claim is also included for mixtures containing a metal chelate complex as described above for removing H2S gas from an acid gas stream.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for electrolytically coating metalswith zi nc or a zinc alloy. Matt surfaces are obtained by depositing zinc from an electrolyte solution containing a zinc salt selected from zinc sulphate or a n alkane sulphate of zinc or mixtures thereof and optionally other metal salts , an acid selected from sulphuric acid or an alkane sulphonic acid or a mixtur e of both acids and at least one additive for improving surface roughness and for avoiding dendritic edge growth, selected from surface active compounds containing nitrogen which can be ionic or non-ionic, anionic surface active compounds containing nitrogen, and surface active compounds derived from mul ti- fuctional alcohols with at least three hydroxy groups. The invention also relates to an electrolytic composition for an electrolytically coating of metals with zinc or zinc alloys, in addition to the use of the above-mention ed additives for improving surface roughness and avoiding dentritic edge growth when metals are electrolytically coated with zinc or a zinc alloy in an electrolyte containing alkane sulphonic acid.
