Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of compounds with copolymerisable ethylenically unsaturated groups contain a stabiliser containing at least a piperidin-N-oxyl group tetrasubstituted in 2,2,6,6-position by a 1-6C hydrocarbon group. he stabiliser is most preferably of formula (V). Abstract: The invention concerns 4-acylamino piperidin-N-oxyls of the formula: A B wherein A stands for hydrogen or an organic group and B stands for a group of formula (IIa) in which the substituents have the following meanings: R -R are C1-C4 alkyl (R and R and R and R can be bound to a 5- or 6-member ring); R is H or C1-C4 alkyl; and R is H or C1-C18 alkyl. The compounds in question serve to stabilise organic substances against the harmful effects of radicals, especially in the distillation of radically polymerising monomers such as styrene.
