    Abstract: The catalyst is in tablet form having a diameter of 0.8-5 mm and a height of 0.8-5 mm. The catalyst is prepared by: (a) precipitating a solution of zinc and aluminium salts (Zn:Al ratio is 3-1:1-3) with and alkali carbonate or hydroxide solution at a pH of 5-12 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C; (b) removing and washing the precipitate to remove alkali ions; (c) drying the precipitate; (d) calcining the precipitate at 250-800 degrees C to a mixed oxide; (e) dispersing the mixed oxide in an acid solution of copper and zinc salts (Cu:Zn ratio is 1-20:5-1); (f) precipitating the dispersion with an alkali carbonate or hydroxide solution at a pH of 6-9 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C; and (g) repeating steps (b) to (d). The solutions in steps (a) and/or (e) additionally contain oxides of platinum group metals, groups 5, 11 and the lanthanides.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a storage catalyst for a flow of waste gases, especially of a combustion engine operating alternately on lean and rich fuel, preferably a diesel engine or a lean mixture engine, or for the waste gases of a combustion plant. The inventive catalyst comprises a constituent which is capable of catalytic reduction of nitric oxides at least in the presence of hydrocarbons, and a constituent which stores NOx at least below 100 DEG C. The catalytic constituent has the general chemical formula AaBbO4, wherein A is one or several bivalent metals, B is one or several trivalent metals, a + b 0. Said catalytic constituent also has at least microscopically a crystalline or crystal-like cubic grid structure with face-centred oxygen ions and tetrahedral or octahedral vacancies. The A-particles and up to 50 % of the B-particles are situated in said tetrahedral vacancies and the rest of the B-particles are situated in said octahedral vacancies. The reaction enthalpy or the chemical activity between the catalytic constituent and the NOx storage constituent is low at least up to temperatures of 600 DEG C, preferably 800 DEG C.

    Abstract: In accordance with the invention, for the reduction of NOx, in particular in burner gases, a catalyst is used consisting of: (a) 20-97 wt.% Al2O3, (b) 1-40 wt.% CuO, (c) 1-50 wt.% ZnO, (d) 1-40 wt.% Ag, (e) 0-2 wt.% Pt, (f) 0-20 wt.% oxides of rare earth metals, elements of the third subgroup of the periodic system or their mixtures, with relation to the total weight of components (a) to (e), which is 100 wt.% In this catalyst, up to half the weight of component (a) can be replaced by FE2O3, Cr2O3, Ga2O3 or their mixtures; up to half the weight of component (b) can be replaced by CoO; up to half the weight of component (c) can be replaced by MgO; up to half the weight of component (d) can be replaced by Au, and up to half the weight of component (e) can be replaced by Pd, Ru, Os, Ir, Rh, Re or their mixtures. Components (a), (b) and (c) form a spinel which can be doped with the components (d), (e) and (f).
