Abstract: Binders for paper-coating materials permitting even printing, containing a polymer produced by seeding from 1 to 49 wt % of a polymer seed (A) with a glass transition temperature of -80 to +25 .degree.C based on esters of acrylic acid or (meth)acrylic acid, and 51 to 99 wt % of ethylenically unsaturated monomers (B), in which there is 10 to 100 wt % of butadiene. The polymer seed (A) is added before or during the polymerisation of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
