    Abstract: Prepn. of 2,4-diiminothiazolidine (I) is carried out by reacting thiourea (II) H2N-CS-NH2 with a glyconitrile sulphonate ester (III) RSO2OCH2CN in 1:1 molar ratio: (where R is an aliphatic or pref. aromatic gp.). (I) is an intermediate, e.g. for dyestuffs. Cpds. (III) are cheaper to produce and less noxious than the haloacetonitriles used in prior art processes (cf. DT 729853). Pref. cpds. (III) are those where R is phenyl, p-tolyl or a mixt. of o-and p-tolyl. (III) can be prepd. in situ by reacting an aq. alkali metal cyanide soln. with aq. HCHO and reacting the product with RSO2Cl. The reaction of (III) with (II) is pref. effected in a solvent, esp. H2O and/or a 1-4C alkanol.

    Abstract: Prodn. of pure metal complex pigments of formula (I) is carried out by treating impure (I) with a mineral acid, adding H2O (if necessary) to ppte. the product and separating, neutralising and isolating the product: (where R, R1, R2 and R3 are H, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, Cl, Br, CF3 or Ph; M is Cu, Co or Pref. Ni; Z is NH, S or O A- is an anion). The process allows crude products produced by the process of DT2357830 to be converted into a pure form suitable for direct use as a pigment in lacquers and plastics. Laborious Zn halide adduct formation using expensive aprotic solvents is avoided (cf. DT2357830).
