    Abstract: Primary amines of the antraquinone series are made by allowing strong sulphuric acid, oleum, chlorosulphonic acid or a melt of aluminium chloride and a melting point depressant to act on a cyclohexylamino-anthraquinone which may be substituted in the anthraquinonyl radical. When sulphuric acid or oleum is used, nitrile or amido groups may be wholly or partly saponified or sulphonic acid groups may be introduced. Preferably the acid reagent is a mixture of aluminium chloride and a compound having the general formula X1COX2 in which X1 denotes hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or amino, and X2 denotes an unsubstituted, mono-allyl- or diallyl-substituted amino group, or, if X1 is hydrogen, an O-metal group, or X1 and X2 when taken together denote an alkylenamino or an a ,o -diamino alkylene radical with 3 to 6 methylene groups which together with the CO group form an inner amide, the amido nitrogen of which may be substituted with an alkyl group. Detailed examples are given in which the products contain chloro, sulphonic acid, cyano, methoxy, carboxylic acid cyclohexylamide, carboxylic acid, hydroxy, or carboxylic amide radicals in addition to amino groups.

    Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of the formula wherein X is a sulphonic or carboxylic acid group or a salt thereof, A is a mono- or dinuclear radical of a water-soluble diamine of the benzene series, R is hydrogen or methyl and R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or acyl other than acetyl and formyl. R1 and/or R2 may be acyl radicals which are capable of entering into a covalent linkage with cellulose fibres. The dyes are made by reacting 1 : 4-dichloroanthraquinone-6-sulphonic acid or the corresponding -6-carboxylic acid or a salt thereof with at least 2 moles of a water-soluble mono- or dinuclear diamine of the benzene series of which one amino group is -NH2 and the other is -NH2 or -NHCH3 and then if desired acylating the product with an acylating agent yielding an acyl radical other than acetyl or formyl, for example, with benzoyl chloride, b -chloropropionyl chloride, b -(4 : 5-dichloro - pyridazonyl - 1) propionyl chloride, dichloroquinoxaline carboxylic acid chloride, 2 - chloro - 4 : 6 - diaminotriazine, cyanuric chloride or tetrachloropyrimidine. The dyes dye and print textile and other materials of natural or regenerated, cellulose, natural or synthetic polyamides, polyvinyl alcohol and polycaprolactam and of leather and paper.

    Abstract: Water-soluble dyes of the formula where Y is an acyl radical bearing at least one group capable of reacting with cellulose fibres to form a covalent bond and Z is a cation, are made by sulphonating the compound of the formula or a salt thereof and acylating the product with an acylating agent bearing at least one group capable of reacting with cellulose. The invention also comprises dyes of the first formula above wherein Y is an unsaturated six-membered ring containing two cyclic nitrogens and one to three halogens attached to nuclear carbon atoms or an aliphatic or aromatic acyl radical containing such a ring; a mono-halo-acetyl group; an aromatic acyl group substituted by a mono-halo-methyl group; a propionyl group having in b -position a hydroxyl group which may be etherified or esterified with sulphuric acid or a sulphonic acid group, a quaternary nitrogen atom, a thioether group or a sulphone group; one of the radicals or an aromatic acyl radical containing the group -CH2NH-CH2-C­C-CH2-Cl, an aromatic acyl radical containing attached via -SO2NH- a b -chloroethyl or g -chloropropyl group bound in b position to the nitrogen of the sulphonamide group; a vinylsulphonyl or substituted vinylsulphonyl group; or a group of the formula where X1 is halogen, hydroxy, phenoxy or sulphate ester and X2 is halogen, hydroxy, amino, sulphate ester or an aliphatic or aromatic radical directly attached to the triazine ring or attached via an -NH-, -O- or -S-group. Examples are given in which a variety of acyl radicals and acylating agents is specified. The dyes dye and print textile materials and sheets of cellulose and materials of polyvinyl alcohol, linear polyamides including silk and wool and leather and paper.
