    Abstract: Proposed is an electrolytic method for the production of sodium and aluminium chloride in an electrolytic cell with an aluminium anode and a sodium cathode separated from each other by a sodium-ion-conducting solid electrolyte. In the anode region, molten electrolyte containing essentially sodium tetrachloroaluminate is electrolysed, the aluminium chloride produced being evaporated out of the cell and the sodium produced being tapped off from the cathode region.

    Abstract: A gas-generating metal electrode comprises hollow profiled sections arranged parallel to one another in a horizontal plane and interconnected by a current distributor. The faces of the profiled sections facing the counterelectrode are curved, the curvature being greater at the sides than in the centre. At the top, the profiled section is terminated by two side faces emerging tangentially from the curvature. The electrode is suitable as anode for chlorine-alkali electrolysis amalgam cells.

Metallic lithium is produced from an aqueous lithium salt solution by forming a lithium amalgam from the solution and using amalgam as a moving anode in an electrolysis cell containing a lithium ion conductive solid electrolyte and a molten lithium cathode. Preferred Features: The lithium amalgam anode is moved by stirring and/or pumping under atmospheric or slightly elevate pressure. The amalgam is produced by chlor-alkali electrolysis.
